Hello Stellaris Community!

We’re proud to announce that over the summer, the Stellaris Community Team will be hosting another Mod Jam, with the support of our sponsors at Republic of Gamers!

We’ve had some great results from past Mod Jams, including last year - where for the first time a modder who had never made a mod before placed in the top three. This year, we’ve decided to take a different tack on the classic mod jam setup:

This year you will be choosing the theme!

From now until June 19th, you will be able to here on the forums, and on discord for one of four themes, and on June 20th, we will officially announce the theme of MODJAM2025 alongside the prizes.

The four themes are:

  • Major Event Chain - modders would be asked to make a major event chain similar to the Horizon Signal, that is either associated with a solar system initializer or planet type
  • Origins - we have done origins before, back when they were first introduced, but it’s been five years and this theme is a strong contender - modders would be asked to create one unique origin
  • Precursor Event Chains - this is another strong contender. With the ability to choose what precursors spawn in the galaxy introduced in 4.0, there’s plenty of room for more (non-canonical) galactic history to be told!
  • Crisis Paths - since the introduction of Cosmogenesis in The Machine Age, crisis paths have been moddable, but generally require a lot of work to add to the game when it comes to scripting and artwork (which means we might see fewer finished mods). Modders would be asked to create one unique crisis path and final objective - completing the final objective should trigger the victory screen.

So be sure to vote here and stop by the Stellaris discord to cast your vote for the theme for #MODJAM2025, and we will be back next week to talk about prizes and the theme.

If you’re a modder, sign ups for #MODJAM2025 are open now and will be open until June 20th! Fill out this form - and join us on discord - if you want to participate!

Tentative timeline for #MODJAM2025. This is subject to change.

We hope you’re all as excited as we are for #MODJAM2025, and we can’t wait to see what the modders come up with this year!

EDIT:

A note about the #MODJAM2025 vote above:

The Crisis Path UI is DLC-locked to Nemesis, The Machine Age or BioGenesis. This means that if Crisis Paths wins, the #MODJAM2025 content will only be usable to those who have those DLCs.

If you do not have those DLCs, and want to play with the Mod Jam content, you should probably consider changing your vote.

Sorry for the confusion, and thank you for your interest in #MODJAM2025!

Personally, I believe one can never get enough precursors. More precursors mean more variety and lower chance of players in multiplayer games getting the same precursor. Of course you'd have to find a bunch of friends to play modded multiplayer with, but that's another problem.

I guess there is a missing word ("vote?")

Additionally, as i didn't follow the previous modjams, what are the indications or results for the modjam? Does the winning will be included into the game?

One interesting thing is that here on the forums, precursor chains are (currently) the most popular option, while over in the official discord server it's the most unpopular.

No option for bug fixes?
Economy fix specifically. Challenge modders to make their own interpretation of a working 4.0 economy system. Would that be possible with mods? Or they could present their solution to fix performance and lag issues. Create an enjoyable system of trade routes and piracy. I guess this would be an 'Overhaul' category. You know, this could save a lot of dev work.

Can someone please tell them that they have a new DLC planned for this summer, but they haven't fixed the previous one? Ask them to release a mod for the game that changes all negative reviews to "extremely positive" in the "Season 09" and "Biogenesis" add-ons.

Crisis path would be fun... Especially if modders are given solid tutorial to streamline the Ui/art aspect.

But if we're still restricted by DLCs this is gonna be a nightmare...

How about another option

  • Fix what the developers count not.

Seriously its not remotely respectful of the fans to do other than get the game to the state of at least 3.14 with regards to stability and functionality.

Why would modders do a modjam when whatever mod they will make won't be compatible with 4.0.googolplex by the time the modjam is over? Surely you modjam the phoenix after it's risen from its ashes, been shot in the heart by a psionics DLC and rerisen from it's ashes again....

Also how can modders possibly modjam when the game is getting hotfixed every 18 hours...

Oh we're coming up on vacay time....the modders can modjam a broken game over vacay....cool cool...cool...

I would like to see a unique origin. It is not necessarily limited only to the history of its species, but connected to the history of the entire galaxy and other races. Similar to the origins on the Shoulders of Giants or Scion of the fallen empires or knights of the Toxic God or the pay back, but I hope there is more content.:)

Is there a way to vote for a bugfix mod instead of more features?
