I was very unsatisfied with the way the English county/title structure and coats of arms were handled originally so I asked around how to change the names and structure of the provinces and I'm happy to say that the English (actually properly British) mod is nearing completion.

One major problem is that unlike continental Europe, most English titles were unattached to the places they were named after so being Earl of Norfolk didn't mean you physically controlled Norfolk. Most had manors scattered about the land in various counties. Also the counties in the game were mostly the geographical regions, not the proper titles.

I said earlier that the CoAs were incorrect - I realize that wasn't correct either. The CoA's in the game are based on civic heraldry or regional heraldry rather than family heraldry. Well I'm playing a dynasty here not a plot of land so I decided I wanted to go back to having the 'right' coats of arms for various locations.

Thus the English Mod.

This reassigns most of the Duchies and Counties in the British isles and renames many British counties as well as providing 'family' CoAs for the most prominent clans related to various areas (the Beauchamps in Warwick, the Nevilles in Westmorland, the Percies in Northumberland, the Bigods in Norfolk). The Duchy structure is changed as well so it's more 'historical' and you will need to achieve what the historic Duke of whatever achieved before you can be elevated to the dukedom:

I'm actually uncomfortable with the 'Scottish Duchies' as Scotland never had duchies during this period as far as I can tell. The Irish Earldoms are also not taken into account. I'm finishing the CoAs before I release the mod.

By the way, thanks to all those who answered my questions about how to change names of provinces!!

Best regards,
Richmond

the only way to use an "earl" title for counties is to reuse another in game title-tree (like republic one). But that means to assign to the republics other titles or at least use for em the GRANDMASTER tier, and with this the religious orders will be finally playable, and this is against the concept of the game.

Actually

They're still 'officially' counts - the Scots, Irish and English should actually use Earl not Count. The titles listed are the 'historical' titles but there's nothing to prevent a Duke of Canterbury or a Count of Durham.

Cheers,
Richmond
