Hello,
i played a few 1914 campaigns recently in different mods and noticed some annoying ai behavior in all of them. Maybe some things i will mention are intentional, i know how to mod but i am not an expert when it comes to ai modding/behavior.
Most majors:
Why are so many nations not building division, not even 1 line of infantry or something? I had to manually set up some building programms especially for Entente countries as i was playing as Germany. I guess you have to set up the ai files to have them build that but i dont understand the intention behind this "no building" thing. Makes the game too easy sometimes. There is no need for building another 50 divisions in each major but maybe a little something.
Russia:
The russian ai tends to concentrate its forces in 1 or 2, sometimes 3 points and leave other provinces with almost nothing or empty. I was wondering why that is happening and thought maybe its because i encircled too many russian forces in Poland already. Then i gave them some infantry lines to build at scenario start but the outcome was the same. After a while i found out why (and this especially happens in every mod i played so far): Russian ai parks many divisions, sometimes up to 80 or maybe even 100 in Vladivostok for no reason. If i change their location in the savegame to Europe it will deploy some others back to Vladivostok.
Austria-Hungary:
This is a special case because i dont know if the AH ai is meant to be so bad sometimes. AH isnt moving spare forces to the front and uses them for anti partisan duty in Serbia instead. This makes it very easy for Russia to smash them in galicia. The effect is good for a while because it emulates the bad performance of AH forces on the galicia front but the problem is: The ai will always do it but in reality the army would learn trough pain about these mistakes. In short: AI controlled AH will suck even affter 10 years of war experience. After the russian defeat AH will not even deploy all its forces on the italian (and balkan front if Greece is in Entente) and instead enjoys the adventures of anti partisan duty with many divisions.
Italy:
It guards its beaches against a non existant threat and is too passive in the alps. The AH navy is not strong enough against Entente forces to do anything serious.
On a sidenote:
Overall the 1914 scenario is very underdeveloped. There could be so much more events for different alliance outcomes and so on (Sweden in CP for example) and the peace events are rather lacking. There were so many different peace options that could have happened IRL but in game there are no options for a general white peace or such things. But i know, changing this to a satisfying level would require dozens of events at a minimum so i cant blame anyone.
So far i tweaked my grand campaign events for a bit more options but there is so much more to be done.
