Actually, that's not the title.

I noticed that all the Nubian stories here have crashed and burnt (sometimes for reasons having nothing to do with the Fatimid or Zirid army). Thought I'd rectify that and give people at least one all the way through.

Luckily, I happen to have just one such non-ground-under-the-Umma's-heel game sitting around on my hard drive right now. Before I play it any further, though, I wanted to see what kind of AAR people would actually like to read. This is my first, so I could use practice and would just like to make sure I have some readers. :D

So, first question.

* What kind of style would you be most interested in reading / leafing through yourself ?

a . I like very clipped, matter-of-fact presentation of the game
b . Ditto, but with some historical background and flavor, too
c . It'd be cool to read a 'serious' role play of the rise of a (kinda) Greek-speaking dark African Miaphysite dynasty
d . Me, I wanna read some role playing of Peter Ebbesen-style dueling Arab and Nubian chronicles, with maybe some rap
e . Something else, man. Anything else. Play Navarre or something.

No, I cannot guarantee to bring Ve-Vill-Haf-to-Roll-SIXES level funny :eek:o . Voting for a or b obviously is also a vote for faster posts - since I'll have to do far less. :p

j.

To mods: Sorry if this thread comes off as spam. We can delete it after I start the AAR :)

Um, hope that didn't ruin the suspense for people tuning in to see if I get eaten in the first twenty minutes of play...

You'll all pretend to still be surprised when I take Cairo, right? :D

(posting in between classes of introducing Chinese kids to English, since they've only previously had exposure to British :p)

second question:

What should be the end goal?

f. Survival's cool with me. All my games with Nubia suck.
g. Kinda historical regional power - focus on the role playing.
h. Take as much as you can (sXe World Conquest)
i. I onl3 r3ad teh 733T (WC w/gamey exploits)
j. Bring the wisdom and peace of soothing Dark Brown to the entire world (world conversion).

A sounds awesome for Nubia.

I would LOVE to see a Nubian AAR!!

My votes:
1) a or c, followed closely by b (clipped or RP, followed by historical)

2) a or b (survival/regional power)

Ok. I'll leave this up for a day or two to get some more votes. Thanks for the interest, though - it's really heartening. :)

I say c.) for the first and b.) for the second. I guess you have to survive to get a regional border, don't you?

Though Orthodox conversion of whole Northern Africa sounds good too. And get yourself the cultural conversion bug fixed so we see a Nubian Egypt. You just need to add this

Code:
condition = { type = or
     condition = { type = same_realm }
     condition = { type = same_ruler }

Instead of the same realm only. The event id = 9007 in provincial_conversion_events.txt. Just in case you haven't done already.

I have pretty high stewardship and intrigue stats, so i could just move my desmesne around some; but thanks, no, I hadn't even realized that's why my vassals (esp. bishops!) never got around to spreading the good word in my Faeroes (>Sweden) game.

Something else I was thinking of ways to replicate: anyone know how easy or hard it is to edit in another religion, so I have to "convert" the biphysite heretics in "Rome" instead of being able to add them on as coreligionists? I think I saw some Jews runninga around in Khazaria... would using that make Nubian unplayable without yet more modding?

Maybe I could just f12 in some heretic events... :D

You can simply change the religion of your characters by opening the saved game file, look for your characters and change their religion

Code:
character = {
	id = { type = 10 id = 20572 }
	name = "Georgios"
	gender = male
	dynasty = { type = 12 id =101777 }
	country = NUBI
	[COLOR=Lime]religion = orthodox[/COLOR]
	culture = muslim
	score = { gold = 50 prestige = 100 piety = 100 }
	birthdate = { year = 1039 month = january day = 0 }
	dna = "37791783884043"

But if you change them to muslim, pagan or jewish you won't be able to play them without having DivineShadow's Mod installed

I had a few more questions, but I suppose I'll post 'em to the moddy forum and add the answers to the CKpedia.

Thanks for helping even over here in AARland, Veld!

The King of Nubia is Arab Orthodox. Now I am playing Nubia and my heirs became Greek as I have strong ties with Byzantium. I think it is logical course as even the first king had Greek name and the only other strong Orthodox lands are in Russia. I think Egypt should be Greek.

But Georgios III wasn't Arab - Pdox just didn't code in a Nubian culture for their (originally) two provinces. During the period of the first two scenarios, Nubians spoke Nubian (natch), but conducted their church services in Coptic and wrote and conducted business and government in Greek. The kings tended to have Greek names but also had native Nubian ones as well, they focused on different saints than the Byz did, and they placed more emphasis on OT stories, especially the story of Shadrach, Mishach and Abednego (perhaps after they sent their crown prince all the way to Baghdad to avoid backpayments on the baqt and he not only survived but succeeded in reducing their future payments by a third).

There's an argument that Nubia and parts of Egypt should share an Egyptian or Coptic culture - much of Nubia's early culture was borrowed from Egypt wholesale and they never had a church independent of the Alexandrian pope - but it certainly wouldn't be a Greek culture the way Constantinople practiced it.

My two (non-pro.-academic) cents,
j.

EDIT: 2nd thought, though, with no mod and no extra cultures, you're right it's more Greek than Arabic. So that could change with the next patch.

Any last minute votes are welcome, but it looks like a plurality for c. I'll start in on the first instalment later tonight. :)

Yes, this is what I meant. As I know Nubians were black people anyway and even in CK2 I am not sure they will make black faces specially for Nubians ;)

Besides, I think if real Nubians would conquer Alexandria I am pretty sure this city would become more Greek then Nubian.
