BiB, although your location is Brussels, would there be any English blood swimming in those veins of yours. Not that I don't think Belgium has coalmines, but those phrases are very British, or is Blackadder on network TV there :)
 
Not Brussels, the great city of Brugge (which should be the city of Flanders in the game as Antwerpen isn't even located in Flanders) !! :D

Quite pure Flemish too. Though I grew up with a lot of BBC and Blackadder is a show I try to never miss. Now that u mention it, a rerun has been long overdue for a while now! I need another one of those rants :D

Grin, that's a good side effect. But I still find it annoying that certain alliances automatically declare war on me every 5 years because of some numeric value. Constantly reminds me that I'm playing a computer game rather than ruling France. Real countries don't declare war mindlessly on a set numeric time scale based on a numeric badboy value. If this phenomenon doesn't hurt the realism of the game I don't know what does.
 
Modelling a full featured diplomatic model would be interesting, it could be a whole game in itself.

Regarding the DoW arriving at the specified date, it is quite painful when you have upset TWO strong alliances, that DoW you with a 2 years interval. You have just finished the first war that the second beginning... The short moment of peace just allow the rebuilding of armies, and after some time, everyone starts rebelling... And if you're used to go for the capital, how can you refuse a peace proposal of France offering Bourgogne Champagne and Lyonnaise to your little Lorraine ? Either that, or face the French alliance next time.

If you feel that way why do you insist on playing the Historical campaigns ??
Play the Fantacy & short War scenarios instead ...

If you indeed have a history degree, you for shure already know that wars were just one of many things of equal or higher importance of those days. They were also never regarded as fun.

You and I have the same view on the Fantasy scenario.

However, for someone complaining about EU beeing a game of diplomacy and colonization and You fight fun wars you get punished it is certainly a viable option to play these scenarios instead.
Therefore I stick 100% to my original post as I did (and still do) consider it good advice for someone with these veiwpoints. That is why those scenarios where probably put in the game to begin with ...

I too like the badboy rating - it makes sense, as historically the European nations tended to pull together to prevent hegemonic powers from growing too powerful. However, I think that it tends to go too far, and can even end up backfiring at a certain point. A good example is my latest game, where looking at the file I've got a BB rating of 20 - my closest competitors are a 3 and 1. I've been fighting BB wars for the past 50 years now, and I'm thriving on them. I never have to worry about Casus Belli, as everyone just declares war on me instead. Ironically this was supposed to have been the game I tried a strategy of peaceful expansion via diplomatic annexation and colonization. I have yet to actually declare war on anyone, yet in each BB war I only get bigger.

Now, if the AI was declaring/fighting these wars intelligently, it wouldn't be so bad - for example Spain has lost almost nothing aside from a few burned trading posts in the various wars. England and Russia haven't fared nearly as well, having lost 10+ and 5-6 provinces respectively, yet they keep declaring war! Each war they lose just a little bit more, but they keep at it - there should be a 'cut your losses' point where some of these powers just realize they're beaten and back down - though I'm not sure I could show a computer how to realistically judge that :)
