hey, I just got back from vacation a week or so ago and finished the game but i lost my notes DAMN. Ill just tell you how things ended up though.

By about 1550 I had control of the west baltic by taking Skane, Jylland, Gotland in a war. Then by 1580 I had most of the baltic. All the area from Jylland to Danzig and up to Finland were mine including Novgorod and excluding Prussia.

By the 1650s I looked into the mediteranian(sp?) and got most of the Spanish islands there and Genoa and Tripolatia or something. By the 1680s I took the whole French coast there and Parma, Naples, Savoy.

1720s I was set back and lost alot of land then regained it back through numerous wars, many with the turks and other moslem lands and the French and Austrians. I regained all I lost except for Naples and I think Helevetia. I did gain a few moslem territories but they were a pain with the riots.

1750s on were just small wars in which provinces went both ways but I managed to regain them all for the end so I ended with:

Jylland-Finland along the coast (except prussia) plus Skane, Novgorod and Gotland.

The French med to parma with islands and moslem lands.
and the isles minus scotland (i never got around to them).

I dont think I did too well. I did alright but I never got around too much colonization and dont think I was ever the strongest power in europe for more then 10 years.

My next AAR is Austria.

Welcome back IA!

Sorry to hear about your notes. Is it just me or have a lot of the AARs around here been meeting bad ends lately? Makes me a bit paranoid...

It sounds as if you had a fun game, though not a World-Conquest one. Hard to tell exactly, but if you want my opinion as to where you got off the rails, it's as you said --

  • you never got around to much colonization
  • you took a few moslem lands but they were a pain, so you didn't grab very many
  • no mention of Asia, so I'll guess that too was a non-starter

Any of the European powers can only get so big in Europe itself before taking on too many BB points and getting everyone united against them. At that point, unless your empire includes significant contributions from at least one of the three areas mentioned above, you probably won't have the funds, the manpower, and the time to really crush your European rivals.

Good luck with Austria -- I'll be keeping an eye out for the AAR!

I did start decent colonization but lost alot of it to Spain/France in wars, instead of giving up my europe land.

i attacked Spain at one point but it went badly and i was defeated (my armies were too spread out and I never had a chance for that 1 great offensive).

This AAR was getting kinda boring anyways, without a story line.

besides some of the events wouldn't have been too fun too write about.
