It's not that simple, the map is what the entire game is based on. You can't just whip up another map in a day. All of that is hardcoded, and replacing it will probably kill your game.

Althought it would be cool, it probably won't happen. I want a Middle-Earth map. :)

Yeah, changing the map or adding a completely new one is not possible for us mortal users. :( A Middle-Earth map would be a nice fantasy addition, but then there should also be appropriate unit graphics (trolls, elfs etc.) :)

Hm, middleEarth, you mean Goblins and Trolls , hm hm...
I was not thinking of that. I was just thinking of playing the same game with the same units and contries (only perhaps give the countries fantasy names) on a different map.

Civilisation wouldn't have been the success it was if all players would have had to play one single same always the same map all the times. EU might become a much greater success if it would offer a lot of maps, too. Simple: it would be less boring ! I have played Portugal now, Austria, Russia, England, Turkey, hm, only Poland and France left among the major countries. You know what I mean - it's simply getting boring (I'm afraid to say).
It gives you completely different game tasks whether you play Turkey or Portugal. It's just like another world, although using the same units and the same economic system. This is great, and this should be used to create more and more scenarios which are interesting to play.

I will try Venice now, and Persia or the Mamelukes, but after that, I think I 'am thru with it' - no really 'new thing' left to discover, if you know what I mean. And small war scenarios, like the Nordic War and so, they are good, but they are just not the same 'whew what a big world, what big opportunities, what a big challenge' thing.

I would pay for other maps. Jolly good old planet of earth, we've been playing you soooo much in all these games. Gimme another planet )

I understand that it is not easy to create new maps. And you can't offer the üplayers 'create a new (random) map', because this simply does not work, based on the game's hardcore. I understand that each province has it's fixed neighbour provinces. I understand that creating a new world map would mean a lot of work (but rather standard work) for the creators of this game.

But I would pay for this work. If you offer me a new map, thumbnail on this web site, look there are completely different continents, and strategical islands, and other 'parties' e.g. states,

and if you say 'Playing this map requires downloading this patch XY' OR 'playing this map requires that you install your EU game one more time in another directory, using this patch XY',
AND
'the patch woudl cost you $5 or $10'

I would do it !

(well let's say 5 USD for a smaller world and 10 for a real good and big world like Earth)

This would be a good way to earn additional money for the game developing company, AND to keep the game (concept) alive all the time !!!

Would be great anyway )

Although it is sort of cool to play that way, this game isn't really intended to be a 'Civilization' type game. It is intended to be a historical game. Exploring and colonizing are only part of it, and depending on which county you play not necessarily an important part.

There are other things that could be done with the engine, though. Anybody ever read H. Beam Piper's 'Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen', or the sequel(s?) by Roland Green? Takes place in 'parallel Earth' where things diverged at very prehistoric times, so the North American continent is settled pretty Europe-like and the countries there have technology similar to this period. A scenario based on those books might be interesting.

If it is intended to make a large profit (which will fund future iterations of this great game), then a random map generator would help a lot!

If such a generator is impossible, then a mission pack with a few new maps would be the next best thing.

I'm a history buff, & I love the history-learning aspect of EU. But it can't REALLY duplicate history--because the historical leaders in 1492 did not know where Manhattan, Bombay, Rio de Janeiro, Honolulu, & such places WERE . . . and we do (or at least we can look it up on a map).

When the historical explorers sailed off into terra incognita--they had NO IDEA what they would find, or indeed whether they would find anything.

So give over the maps!

YES !

YES HAND OVER )))
I must confess I was playing EU every day at least 3 hours between Dec and January, but I haven't touched it for weeks now. I would have forgotten about EU if there hadn't been the notification to your reply to this board topic.

Why ? Because EU get's boring after you've played thru Spain, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Austria, Turkey, Persia, Mamelukes, England and perhaps a few minors.
EU gives fun and challenge a loooong time longer than other games, but once you are thru with everything it got, well, nothing new to discover no more, just like in every other game

So give us new maps, at least one. Sell it over the net, on this page, or retail in store. I will buy it )))

cu then )

dont think it is somebody bored with EU. I think it is more like a junkie that just cant get enough of a fix from the present EU. He needs more!!!! More worlds to explore More worlds to trade with and conquer!!

The map is hard coded yes, but it is hardcoded for content of provinces.. not for location of provinces right?

So why not move provinces 1-10 to a seperate island in the south atlantic.. california in the south atlantic..

give the aztects land adjecent to the moghuls in india while the nips are moved to where columbus thought they were..

just imagine columbus finding nothing but open water all the way to africa with nothing in between.. and j cabot bumping right into india 50 miles out from rockall??
