Gamersgate version of AoD

I uninstalled AoD

Then reinstalled AoD

Then unzipped 1.05 and copy/pasted into the main AoD folder.

When I first started testing the game I discovered that I did not have the ability to save the game.

I also play on multiplayer using Gameranger and discovered I had similar problems.

First when I tried to save the game I got a message that read:

Critical error !

"Couldn`t open file:scenarios\save games\test game 1.eug"
Do you still want to continue ?

I went to the save game folder and then deleted all of the old saves since I thought I might have had a game under the same name.

Then I tried running the game as administrator.

This seemed to work but only in singleplayer. I could save and load games w/o the critical error message popping up. But when I tried using Gameranger I had the same problem again when trying to save games.

I saw the following thread so I tried some of the solutions in there:

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?462466-Impossible-to-save

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?501172-1.05-CNRO-Online-Gamesranger-Problem

The Very first thing I did was rightclick the shortcut. Went to shortcuts>advanced>Clicked "Run as administrator." AoD should always be running as administrator now.

I moved AoD from Programs Files to simply the C: drive. Then I right clicked and changed the target to: "C:\Arsenal of Democracy\aodgame.exe"

and changed the Start in to: "C:\Arsenal of Democracy"

Then I went to Gameranger options and changed the old directory to: C:\Arsenal of Democracy\aodgame.exe

I tried saving in MP. This time I didn't get the critical error! message. But when I tried to reload the game, it just crashed.

So the situation stands: I can save and reload in singleplayer.

But not in multiplayer.

What is going on? How can I solve the problem?

The multiplayer group that I and Nixon are a part of (WPO) worked around this issue by posting the save file on the WPO forum. This allowed members to download the save and manually place it into the save game folder. This way, when we go to load a save in multiplayer, everyrone already has it, and the game loads fine.

what is the wpo forum...im not sure i understand how to do what u say...

What I am saying is you can give the save file to whoever you are playing against in multiplayer. Once the other players have that save file, they can manually place it in their AoD save folder. Then, when you go into the multiplayer lobby, all players will ALREADY have the save and when you go to load it, it will load normally.

I was using WPO as an example of how one group of players worked around the problem. WPO stands for War Plan Orange. It is a multiplayer group, and they have their own forum here, which the host decided was a good place to post our save file so all players could download it easily.

As far as sending/placing a save file in the save folder, it is really easy.

When you save a game, it creates a save file. This file is stored in the AoD save folder which is in the main AoD folder. On my computer it is in- C:\Program Files\Arsenal of Democracy\scenarios\save games

You just look in that folder, find your save file, let's say for example it's called GOGOPHER.eug, and then you can copy and send that file to the other players however you want. You can post it on a forum, email it, send it through a messenger/ftp program, whatever. And all the others have to do is place that save in their own save folder.

I know this doesn't "solve" the original problem, but it is a way to work AROUND that problem until someone actually does solve it.
