What a great learning tool it would be to be able to save a full game of HOI via another player and be able to download and replay and watch the game unfold in great detail. You wouldn't even need a tutorial, just let people watch playthroughs of the game.

What do you exactly mean? A feature which would save video footage of your entire game?

If you mean that, it could maybe be cool but I don't know. You can already record it just as easy.

no, like in starcraft II. You can save a replay of your session and post it as a .replay type file and have other people download and have it replayed note for note. You are doing this in-game.

i'm pretty sure the save files are already massive. i'd think you'd be talking many GBs of data needing to be stored for one game, because all the moves of all the players would need to be stored. starcraft is relatively simple comparatively in terms of what needs to be tracked (30 minute games, generally, with two to eight players, and with a maximum of 1600 units but more likely going to be somewhere around 250 units even in the late game... you can play a game of starcraft before you even get done with your opening set up for HoI with all the generals to change and all that)

I prefer the storytelling of AARs to simply replaying the game without understanding the mood of the player.

well to be fair someone could, with observe mode, weave quite the story on those. However, it's so long. if you watch starcraft casters like Husky... he's super excited. and says "but at the same time" about 40 times per 20 minute episode, because he's able to see what's going on, well, at the same time, somewhere else. However, retelling the glorious AI's point of view seems a bit silly

You're just looking for an easier way to get your video's up :)

Seriously, now, it would be handy to see after the facts where you went wrong, what you forgot, and so on.

Meh, HOI games are far too long - would anyone genuinely want to watch the entirety of someone else's game?

I think a better option would be an accelerated, simplified world-map-view fo the game showing only the territory held by each player, similar to the end-game replay you get in some Civ games.

that is the idea. I don't care about an easier way to get my vids up, but I am always asked for my .save files. This would be awesome as an alternative
