I have just purchased Crusader Kings and the expansion, I did have problems with EU III comp when I installed that to windows 7, I got past that. Before I start to install are there any known issues with CK installation for Windows 7?

No real issues besides the usual:

-the AVI movies can cause a crash on start. Rename the AVI folder to avoid this.
-installing in C:\Program Files will make it really painful to mod or to use your savegames. Install in a separate folder like C:\Games\Crusader Kings instead.

Also, make sure you have the 2.1 beta patch.

Enjoy the game :)

Thanks Jordarkelf

Yes I noticed the problems getting Win 7 to do anything with EU III. So modding that is out for me as I am to lazy to reinstall.

I downloaded the patch.

Really?? ;) .... how long would that take??

But anyways, I believe that all Paradox games do not use the registry database, so you can just copy the folder somewhere else, and it will still work fine :) .... at least that is how it worked in the older games like CK and Vicky.

Try it out and see if it works.

Created a folder called games in the C drive. Installed the game, the expansion and the patch. Works perfectly. Have been playing it and realising that it is the ultimate in balancing everything and quite difficult.

So all in all an excellent game.

I hope they do a new one with all the same institutions pluss EU III ideas. The interface is a bit bussy and easy to loose your way at the start but still is learnable.

Does anyone have any recommendations for game plan strategies? I am likley to play from 1066 as England or Byzantium. I have given it a quick go and currently reading the manuel.

Seems likely that I will favour Burghers and Clergy in the game and try to limit the number of vassals by having a strong ruler and effective strong steward. Also by giving titles to my heir who shall be the strongest seems to be the way to go for balancing and loyalty.

Well there are many good threads in the stickies :) ... try checking this out:

England and Byz are usually not ideal choices for learning, as they are quite large, and have several problems from the start.

There is a thread on good starter nations, which include Kingdom of Denmark or Sweden, Duchy of Apulia or Bohemia.

I haven't had any problems whatsoever.

And I DID install in C:\Program Files

I've seen people mentioning having problems with that, but I never had any.

Can use mods and see the savegames without any problem.
