i find the vanilla map really bland and unexciting now. are there any mods that work with ck2 plus to change its style? Something that looks like HIP perhaps or anything else?

I tried both just to see if it loads and it does. Below is the Cartographic map mod with CK2+.

From a quick glance at the files, both seem to be just affecting graphical stuff and thus should be fine.
Note that we can't give you any guarantee on third party mods, so you still have to test it yourself.
But the chances that it does produce problems are pretty slim.

Tested Theatrum Orbis, no crashes or weird glitches that I noticed. Plus the map looks really nice
