I upgraded my computer recently using a Nvidia 4080 along with everything else. Friends wanted to try to play Stellaris so I've been hosting but I keep having freezing/crashing issues which can occur anywhere from 2 years to 10 years into the game playing on normal speed.

I've gone to the Nvidia control panel and disabled v-sync and limited the frames to 60 since that's helped some other older/poorly optimized games but didn't work this time. Drivers are updated, heat is not an issue, memory and CPU are not capping out. Nothing useful gets caught in the Stellaris error log. It's something specific with Stellaris and my hardware since I have other newer games (Cyberpunk 2077, Like a Dragon, Resident Evil 4 Remake) that have all played without any issue.

Unfortunately Stellaris lacks a lot of customization within the game settings, so looking to see if anyone has any suggestions on what I can potentially tweak to either eliminate or reduce the issue.

Have you by any chance tried the tech beta, and are you playing without it? Beta builds don't always revert properly, I usually reinstall the game when I do.

No I haven't tried any betas nor any mods. It's out of the box with all DLCs and I installed it recently since my upgrade and tested for file integrity and found nothing wrong with the files.

This issue only happens on multiplayer or have you noticed it on singleplayer as well?
I've been able to replicate it in single player as well though tends to take a bit longer. I can pretty easily replicate it if I load the multiplayer game and just crank it to speed 5 it fails within 1 year of game time.

I'd uninstall, manually clear out the local files and reinstall. That may not fix it, but it sounds like this is a pretty severe problem and it shouldn't take too long. I've had to do that before, although usually after a beta I try, because some of the files it leaves between installations (the ones it saves your local data with such as empire designs) don't always get checked at all when you verify integrity.

Tried this and didn't work. Made a new game, crashed a few times just trying to spin it up and then once in the game it crashed about about 6 months of playing in single player. Even tried installing it on a different SSD this time.

Can you try changing all your graphical settings, up or down doesn't matter?

Alternatively, can you monitor your internet for drops/slowdowns at the times the game freezes?

I can try lowering the resolution but I'm kind of over it at this point. The issue is something with the software clashing with the hardware. Stellaris is sparse with settings and to me, seems very much an optimization issue since I have other games that work perfectly without a hiccup and I've seen other people report very similar issues I'm experiencing in the bug forum so hopefully a future patch will resolve things.

EDIT: Tried some HOI4 and it had no problem chugging along as the Soviet Union at 5 speed for 3 in game years so it seems like the issue is Stellaris.

Let's concentrate on solo play as tests are easier. After one of these crashes can you restart the game, load up that save, and carry on? Or do you need to wait a while or reboot before you can play it again?

DO you see fps over 60 in the game now?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

If GeForce Experience is running, unload it before starting the game.

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

I formatted my drive and once a game has loaded I was able to get 20+ years into a new game and a with hosting my multiplayer file without any crash so maybe that helped but I'll have to test it further. I am getting a crash when trying to actually start a new game in both Stellaris and Victoria 3 a couple of times but I haven't looked through the forums and would consider that a separate issue than what I was experiencing before as it's actually generating a crash report with that where this thread it wasn't since it would just hang/freeze.
