Anyone feel like they were cheated by the user, 'Gunships'?

First time I played him I tried Blue Emu's Cruizerg naval strategy, and midway through the game he's making a comment to me that gave away that he was looking at my builds. I lost in like a week. Another time I played him I stabbed him in the back as france, he panicked and called me every name under the book, he couldnt get to warsaw with the units 80 sum units he built, he disconnected, and when we re connected, warsaw had fallen. Also there was a time laps in between those events where he could have restarted the game, loaded as poland attack a his units run down their organization and save. His units were also back in the Siegfried line the next day  I mean give me a freaking break. He couldnt have taken warsaw. Today, I prepaired for his patented "stab you in the back when you're in poland" and set a trap for him there and attack france while he has all his units tied up. The guy must have known I was coming because he commented that I had few divisions in poland. There was no way of him knowing that because he had all his divisions in warsaw. I asked him how he knew that after the game and he made a silly reply that because I had few units in danzig that he knew I had a small force  and went off the deep end calling me every name under the book saying how immature I am and that I'm a sore loser.

I mean maybe I am a sore loser, but I think the guy likes to win ALOT judging by how seriously he takes the game. I mean for me it is just a game and I can forget about it afterwards. Its not life or death with me he said after our game, if he could drive to my house he would kill me. I just have a hard time believing he would be honest and not look at the save game when he takes winning to life and death extremes. I wish there was some kind of password protect in mp that allows you to keep what is yours secret so I wouldnt have this feeling, he always seemed to insist on hosting as well. I mean Gunships is a very talented player, I have no concrete evidence on him just a few of the tells that I mentioned.

To make a long story short, anyone felt they were cheated by the user, 'Gunships'?

I think you will find that no one truthfully has ever played a multi player version of this game for more than about a week of game time given that a week of game time equals about 6 years of real time +/- a year.

I believe this to be an irrefutable fact and therefore your accusation must be invalid.

Gunship intregrity is never in doubt. I also have flown of the handle throwing accusations around only to apologise later on. Must be something about the game that turns people crazy. Anyway I have never felt playing with or against Gunny that he does anything other than play the game properly.

Well even though Gunnie and I do have our moments, overall I think his intentions are good. Afterall, Gunships was one of the first people I met online that was willing to share MP tactics with me. For that I am grateful. Thanks M8!!!

Anyways, there's no need to make a thread like this. If you feel cheated or don't enjoy someones company, then don't play with them. That's my policy and it's as simple as that.

Just insist on hosting. If he won't let someone else host, he's cheating.

That said, even with someone else hosting the two biggest "tells" I can think of are A. needing a save file everyweek - either his own, or grabbing it from someone else. B. Sekrit plans being known abroad. Try and keep chat in game to only current events and use out of game for other ideas.

Alternatively, Grab the save from him right after the game ends - if you have to download it at the next week, he's changed something.

I have to agree. Ive played gunship many times over the last 5-6 years and kicked his butt so many times he couldnt possibly have cheat. If did I must be good and I aint that good, just ask major ball. I normaly lose more times then I would like to admit :( But I do always play the losing side, Axis.

It is easy to get wound up and make accusations. I often thing, how the hell did they know I had units there and so on.

A recent example in our games were me and major had a hissy fit was in the middle east. Axis had taken Egyptian side and we were looking to cross the suez but due to huge allied armies there we had to look elsewhere. We had ships of the coast for weeks, plus planes flying over northern Syria looking for weak spots. The UK player didnt notice our planes as it turns out. After we invaded as we picked the weakest spot that we could see, there were comment made that we cheated some how. This happens in the heat of battle, what some people fial to forget in the heat of the moment is operations might have been planned for months in advance with alot of scouting and recon done prior, which you may or may not notice.

I have no reason to doubt Gunship, he losses far to many units in our games to think he looks at saves. It easy to misjudge.

Out of interest what do you mean, he knew you had lots of units in france and not much in poland? Did you take all the polish units out of poland and put them in france to attack Germany from that side? If so I would also leave the game, thats gamey tactics and only noobs result to such methods. As if poland wold give up its whole nation and and send its army to france, thats joke.

I have no problem giving people the save at end of session. Our games are often so intense people like to look at there nations and see things they missed while being so tied downs with battles. I trust everyone enough to do that, even if they do look at my save victory is all the more sweeter :).

I normaly host our games due to my faster internet connection and fast PC. Your right easy way to spot edits to save file are if people need to redownload file after they were already given it. If you pass save to everyone as a rule at end of session you would have no fear of this.

What kind of edits can you do, tell me plz so I can win. I only know how to edit out dissent, give supplies, or fast forward techs. Thats the limit of my knowledge. Go any good edits I can sneak in? A nuke perhaps

You only host cause we know you are too dumb to know how to edit the saves

You can easily edit in nukes, and give yourself free techs. However, since we may one day be opponents, I am not telling you how :p

I'd stand by Gunships integrity too. I have only really played one game with him, but have conversed with him online substantially, and he is not the cheating type. Also, I am also pretty sure he is not a master editor, or has invested much time in that area of the game.

But, the best thing to do as Pedal says is take a copy of the save at the end of each session, this way you can easily compare saves, if you are worried about that kind of thing. Basicly you should not load the save the next time the game is hosted, as you should already have it. If the host is worried about his in-game chat and planning being revealed he can remove the chat history log from the save before handing it over. This only takes a few minutes for an experienced editor.

Also, there is a utility called "winmerge" wich is a pretty handy tool I use for game modding that does very well at comparing files, underscoring the exact differences between similar files.
