We do a weekly game every Tuesday night. Right now six of us are playing, but we sometimes have up to eight. It's a blast.

We're on our third game. The longest game got to 1943, but some very unusual bugs forced us to quit.

Here's the layout of our current game ('36 Scenario)

AXIS

Germany (human)
France (me)
Austria (computer)
Miscellanious African puppets (computer)

ALLIES

UK (human)
USA (human)
Most of the western hemisphere (computer)

Comintern

USSR (human)
Japan (human)
Mongolia, etc (computer)

Most of the action in the previous games involved Barbarossa oprerations. There were some dramatic battles and encirclements, but nothing decisive.

This game, however, was different. Just this week Germany and I launched a picture-perfect Sea Lion. The British government was banished to India.

Here's how it went down - We established air-superiority over the Irish Sea with German fighters. Over a dozen Naval Bombers were dispatched to protect our invading fleet.

My invading fleet launched from Bordeaux. Germany's from Amsterdam. Germany sent a single paratrooper to land, unexpectedly, in Cardiff. We figured a paradrop into a coastal province would give us the best shot of success. We were right. The province was not being defended. All British troops were watching the beaches. In less than a minute game-time we had a combined force of 27 divisions in Wales.

In that moment the operation was ensured victory. The UKs main fleets were nowhere nearby. Their only fleet at the home isles was a bunch of lvl 1 ships. These were quickly dispatched of in the Irish Sea by our overwhelming force.

We also discovered that all of the USA's transports had just recently been sunk by my naval bombers in a previous operation. The USA had no way to send reinforcements! At this time we presented our terms. We allowed the UK to evacuate her remaining forces meekly to India.

We are now faced with the Bear to the East and an extremely-dangerous (over 600IC) USA across the Atlantic. We have control over Iberia, Britain, Ireland, France, Germany, the Lowlands, Italy, Scandinavia, almost all of Africa, and most of the Middle East (excluding Russian-owned Turkey and Persia).

We have a commanding lead at this time. Whether we can actually hold onto the lead will be something to be seen for sure.

I'd suggest to get your friend to play, start in 38, and have him play Japan or Italy. Japan is already at war, and Italy can go to it with little ramification. This will get him interested because there is constant action, and little chance of failure. Eventually he will see that the build up from a 36 game is an ends to a means and may be willing to play a much longer game :)

World in Flames? Isn't that the crazy long play for four months board game? That puts time invested in a computer game, even one like HoI, to shame. Maybe your friends need to play at some internet cafe :)

Sounds like an interesting game. I have a question though, how did France get into the Axis? I take it you are playing an anything goes ahistorical game. My favorite! :) So did the Allies surrender and you took the home isles via the diplomacy actions or was the 'give us the home isles and we will let you ship your troops to india' more of a setup you did via the chat feature? I'm just wondering how come you didn't crush them out right so they couldn't harrass you later...

I ditched the Brits and joined the dark side as France.

We are all in the same house while we game, (LAN Party) so we just paused the game and delivered our ultimatum. Nothing beats strategizing with your ally when he's only a foot away from you. :p

As an update of sorts, we just launched our Barbarrosa this week. Germany slammed into Russia and so far it's a route. Germany and France have the two largest armies with USSR in third. I'm basically defending the homeland and have only launched limited offensives in Turkey and the Balkans. We do have 50 Russian divisions trapped in the Balkans and out of supply, however! Things aren't looking good for the Bear. Not good at all.

There were some shenanegans in Great Britain. The Allies have retaken Ireland. Unfortunately the UK decided to use a game flaw that we haven't made a house rule for. (yet)

The UK gave all of her land in the Home Isles to Japan (Comintern) in a seperate peace. We weren't at war with the Comintern at the time, so my troops in Northern Ireland got redeployed back to Paris.

Luckily, my force in England was based in London. You can't give your old capital up in any peace deal. I was able to quickly gear these troops for an offensive and we immediately declared war on Japan. (Commintern) I got all the way to Edinburgh when the USA showed up. He pushed me just south of York when the USSR went to peace with the Allies. (Full peace, not seperate) This booted the USA out of Japanese-owned Britain, as they were now at peace. I immediately retook the rest of Britain.

French-owned Ireland still remains in USA hands, however. Wasn't anything I could do about it, and the Allies were adamant that they had done nothing wrong. BS of course. There's no way that you should be able to give away land that you don't control. Sure you own it, but why would Germany simply give the land to a neutral third party without any consultation? BS - Pure BS.

No biggie though. We're smoking the Commies and Germany will have enough resources available to help me keep the USA from doing too much damage in Europe. It'll be hard to retake Ireland if half the US army hangs out there. Of course, they're not going to be able to win the game unless they invade Europe.

We're holding a decided advantage at this point. The Commintern and the Allies are reeling. We just have to stay in the drivers seat and dictate the course of this war. As long as we keep control and force them to react to us we should be fine.

As the topic name says i want to know if people play HOI2 at LAN parties (can be any size) and if so, do you have any huge "the desicive battle" stories to tell

I had one back in June, we played with 6 players from 6pm to almost 8am - from 36' scenario... we didn't finish the game (shoulda played 38 :p), but it was a helluva lot of fun. Team axis in one room, team Allies in the other... I highly recommend it. Fortunately I've got a bunch of people around here that play, and LAN is our prefered method as one can play on fast/very fast reliably on a good network - makes those early years much better.
