I have the 1.04RC installed atm. and after about an hour of play my entire system just shuts off. I can play EU3:HttT for hours on end w/ no problem. But i havent played AOD in a while b/c of this problem. has anyone had this issue before?

Have you added any extra music? It is my experience that some mods that added a lot more songs would eventually cause what you have described. It happened a lot with WIF for instance until I went back to vanilla music.

no I've just got vanilla music

Im pretty sure AoD got nothing to with it, especially if u really mean shutdown, not BoD...
best bet:
your cooling, check periodically GFX/CPU temps and/or check if all your system fans work correctly.
Though its all shooting in dark, cause you really didnt described your problem at all... try to be specific next time like to actually describe what happened, to mention any error messages, check your systems logs etc. Without having ANY idea what kind of crash r u dealing with, i doubt anyone can help you at all... :)

PC shutdown is not specific enough:
- did it just switch off like when u hit power switch,
- was there Blue Screen of Death? (white error messages on whole blues background)
- did it started immediately after that or u had to wait a little
- was there any error message at all
- what does windows system log says
- what are your system temperatures
- ....

..you get the picture... :)

[edit]
i guess i was fast reading; u say u played EU3 for many hours since AoD started to crash your pc?
then its probably AoD error or maybe software conflict...
Then u should post at least operating system version u run, and your PC specs so you/we/they/whoever can start eliminating possible reasons by comparison... :)

well. to give more. It seems to shut down a bit more often.

There was no BSOD, no warning, no delay, just shut down. I'm not sure how to check temps. Unsure of how to check windows logs. I can build computers, can't diagnose what's wrong with them.
It does switch off like when I hit the power switch. I'm bummed cause its a great game. Well, I'll start working soon at a best buy maybe I can get geek squad to do it for cheap lol.

Win7 OS.

Win7 OS.

Have you installed any new hardware on your computer lately?

Is just 1.04 shutting off your computer or does it also happen with 1.02 or 1.03 ?
Do you use 32Bit or 64Bit Windows 7 ?
Is your AoD installed into Program files or into a separate directory like c:\games\aod ?
Does these shutoffs happen at random times or at gametime month or year changeovers ?

I've just upgraded to 1.04 It didn't happen w/ 1.03 No new hardware. 64bit Win7. its installed in a separate directory. It happens randomly.

Thanks for you help everyone

to check system log:
my computer/manage/event viewer/windows logs
- wont help in sudden shutdown like you described though :/

to check temperatures:
so many ways... well, download PC Wizard http://www.cpuid.com/download/pcwizard/pcw2010_v194.exe
its VERY useful tool, u can check your temperatures there too.

- so you say it never happens unless u play AoD ? Thats mighty strange, as far as i know patch only changed game related values, no alteration to driver/HW access software was done... *puzzled*

Well, I'll try some other games I have on my PC.

Reminds me of my shutdown problem due to a broken motherboard...
It happened only when I was using intensively my PC especially during games.

First I thought it was due to a bad setup in one game then I understood it was with other softs, then I thought it was due to graphic card and finally understood the motherboard had a dead component.

Check your hardware, many chances it comes from there.

I figure its a heat issue. I came home from a 2 week vacation, and the apartment was really hot. I turned on my computer and it shut down within ten minutes of turning on. I wasnt running AOD. I'm hoping the new laptop I got will work.

The specs are (if you care to help) are
NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G
Intel Dual-core T3100 @ 1.90 GHZ

Definitely sounds like a heat issue where the computer automatically shuts down at a certain temperature which is probably set in the bios. You may have a broken fan somewhere.

thanks everybody. Issue resolved. I just changed my graphics card to something that runs cooler.
