When launching the game, I get the first splash screen (Loading). Then I get the dreaded "East India Company Application has stopped working" messagebox.

I get no other information on what causes the crash. Running Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

Hi guys,

The BETA server is up and running again and the devs have taken steps to ensure that this error does not occur again.

Kind regards
Susana Meza

I don't know what that has to do with our issues honestly.

The game is crashing before it even loads. It shows the loading splash screen and right before the game loads I get Application has stopped working.

Yes, you are right. This problem has nothing to do with the login-server. It seems, that there's a problem running the game on 64-bit Vista and we will take this information into account but cannot provide you a quick fix for the open beta. Sorry for the inconvenience. It works fine on 32-bit Vista and Windows XP which doesn't help you much, I guess.

same here i have vista 32bit
EIC logs shows this message
[2:28:57:604] DEBUG: RELEASE BUILD

ERROR: This file should have been crypted: C:\Users\Marinka\Documents\East India Company\Config\keybinds.txt

Hi all,
it seems that there are some problems with the game crypting and we'll look into it. However, there is no such crypting of the user settings in the final game. We have just reduced the possibility to modify the game in the open beta. There has been some other problems with the open beta crypting also, but all of them are gone in the final game.
As I told earlier, we don't officially support Windows 7 and there might be problems with that. If you're having problems getting the game started on a 32bit Windows Vista, could you please post the errors in the log.html file in your installation folder?

Vista Premium 32 here. Downloaded last night to check it out. First install this morning using advanced, game wouldn't launch (get initial loading "logo" --East India Comany, Fight, Manage, Rule! Build your own trading comany-- and then application has stopped working error). Also noticed that there were no menu/shortcut icons installed anywhere, so figured install was borked.

Uninstall and reinstall, this time with simple method. Game launches automatically after install just fine, but as I had little time left, I closed it and went my merry way figuring all was good. Later found again no shortcuts installed and when trying to run the exe, get the "Application has stopped working".

So, uninstall again, install with simple method and when it goes to auto-launch, application has stopped working. Found this thread and checked for log.html, and it doesn't exist. Since I know Vista can be finicky about programs writing to their install directory, I checked documents and found EIC folder there, no log.html. Tried to run the exe in compatibility mode, compatibility mode with admin rights, and with admin rights, and still nothing.

Here's my log.html from when I tried to launch in Vista 64 Ultimate:

[14:17:51:184] DEBUG: - CoCreateInstance() succeeded, can call IGameExplorer::VerifyAccess()

Also, I tried to re-run the install. I get the "key in use" when attempting to re-install, so that rules that out.

Hi,
it seems that you have a problem with your config-files and it has to do with the fact that these files are crypted in the Open beta (where as they are NOT crypted in the final game). Try removing the East India Company -folder from your Documents. The game will create a new one for you on the next launch. Hope it helps. It could be that the game cannot write the crypted file to your Documents-folder for some reason.

Anyone have their saved file corrupted? Try to load it and then it "stops responding"

I have not had a "Application not working" crash since I turned off 3D ports. They seemed to cause a lot of problems with the game at the moment. Really hoping once we get the unencrypted version that problem goes away.

I just installed Windows 7 RC 32-bit (just moved and don't have my Vista 32 disk/key with me). I actually got past the splash screen now, and the activation dialog came up (Yay!). I put in my email and CD key as given from FilePlanet. Now it says,

There was a problem activating East India Company (beta):

Sad to say I won't be buying this game which I was really looking forward to trying out. Ended up being a big stupid mess.

Good luck with the game, Paradox, you'll need it.

Regards,
Jason

Hi

I am really sorry for your unfortunate difficulties concerning EIC.... We are looking into those issues with Vista. The last error you recieved is becouse the Open Beta period has ended and all the installations keys into that build are now closed.

I am sad to hear that these issues with the Beta version made you to decide not to buy the game... but I still would ask you to reconsider that. WHEN we get these issues fixed the actual gaming experience is well worth of this hassle.

Thanks,
Janne

Personaly recommed to buy this game

Hey People
Sorrry to here you had that error which caused you frustation in not being able to try this game. For myself I got to play the Beta game and enjoy it very much.
If you like strategy games such as the Total War series, more towards Total war :Empires, with its navel battles with out land battle, which would have been good to have included.
This game is totaly concentred on the mercantilism and navel battles in protecting your ships and its valuble cargo, while utterly destroying your enemy, sinking or capturing their ships and cargo to add to your wealth.
Great navel battle graphics with rolling seas and true to life sluggish ship movement when turing into the wind. Not a good move!

Anyway people don't let this stop you buying the game. I've already pepurches EIC, am a little annoyed the beta game is not running. 4 days of agony in waiting for the release of EIC.

I read there will be a demo released sometime soon. I will certainly download that when it is made available and give it another go. I just can't justify buying it when there's the risk of it not working when I receive the game.

I do sincerely appreciate the concern, and your attention to your customers. And I regret not being able to help with the beta test (not just because I couldn't "play" it ;)).

Thanks again, all, for the support. Maybe I will see you in game if this all ends up smoothing out.

Jason

Having the exact same problem as the original poster. Not using the beta, this is the "finished" version.

Same after I installed the Pirate expansion as well.
