Not sure if this is the most appropriate forum for this question, but here goes anyway:

In the License Agreement, it states: "(b) Right to Copy. You may make and maintain one copy of the Software for backup and archival purposes, provided that the original and each copy of the Software are kept in your possession."

Well, I thought that it might be a good idea to protect my $40 investment in what I believe is a great game, so I "burned" a CD copy. Just to make sure that the copy came out correctely, I started-up EU and put the copy in the drive instead of the original. I got a message to "please insert the correct CD."

This is most likely some sort of "copy-protection" function of the original CD to prevent (most understandably) pirating of the software, but then how do you go ahead and make a legitimate archive copy?

Thanks,

Michael

An old chestnut!
Yes you are permitted to make one backup as stated in the licence agreement.

However, as you found out, the software is copy protected. The licence permits you to make a copy but Paradox,(or any other Company) are not going to tell you how to get around the protection. There is also no obligation for the software company to do so.

How you go ahead and make the permitted copy is your problem :)

If i do one of these, may i give it to a friend while he have his cpu in my room so that we can play multiplayer and take it back affter that?

License:-

"Copying. The License Agreement allows the User to use the Software on one computer at a time, with the exception for such Network games that are described in the documentation enclosed with the Software. Copying of the Software is illegal.

Restrictions in User rights. The Software and the enclosed printed matter is protected by copyright laws. The User overbinds not to in any way recreate the Software's source code so that it can be apprehended by the User or anyone else. The User may not change, adapt, translate, sub-let, lease, sell with profit, or distribute the Software, nor may he store it on a public network or create derivative products based on the Software or any of its parts. The User overbinds not to, in whole or part, spread the Software or its printed documentation to others, or to electronically transfer it from one computer to another over a network."

Nowhere on my copy of the License does it say a backup is permitted!
