Are the unit graphics for specific nations hardcoded?

This question is important in case one wants to add new countries by removing already existing ones. If I e.g. remove Cyrenaica and add Ethopia using the former Cyrenaica abbreviation CYR (I guess, I have to rename 'Cyrenaica' to 'Ethiopia' in the text.csv), will there be Muslim soldiers for Ethiopia then? Or will there be the same ones as Nubia (because of the region)?
In case, the graphics are hardcoded to go with certain abbreviations, is then the only way to have black soldiers for Ethopia the replacing of Nubia?

I dunno the answer but why would you wanna replace Nubia with Ethiopia in the first place? lol

Why 'lol'? In 1492 there was the Empire of Ethopia, whereas Nubia had already disintegrated in the 14th century. There are numerous other incorrectnesses as well in the GC, and I would like to prepare a more correct version of the szenario, if it´s allowed.

The units are .bmp files, in the GFXMapUnitsmp folder. I guess a simple renaming will do the trick, although I haven't tried it myself.
