Hi there,

there is a challenge called tourist trap, earn 2000 cash from tourists within 80 days.

Are tourist bringing money now? Is that new or an old mechanic?

try to find out more in wiki and ingame encyclopedia gives no hint, only that they want gambling for comfort and maybe stay because of that, but nothing about money

so i wonder what challenge is that, and is that only working on that specific challenge?

If I am correct, ever since the Da Vinci Patch, each tourist now pays you 10M when they land on Mars and leave on the next available rocket after 5 sols. So the Tourist Trap challenge would mean bringing 200 tourists to Mars by sol 80. Hope this helps!

Edit: Additional info - for every tourist that returns to Earth safely, 2 new tourist applicants become available.

I didn't know either, only the patchnotes mention it.

That slipped by me unnoticed too. It was in the "Balance" section of the Da Vinci patch notes, as some of you have noted.

I have added it to the wiki. It's a stub, there's not much to say, but still helpful if someone else comes looking.

There is necessary to say, that "leaves after 5 Sol's" is the minimum time for Tourist to leave - he won't leave at 4 Sol, at sol 5, but after 5 Sol so in Sol 6 of their visit...

...But he can leave after 15 Sol's for example as well. There was individuals who likes live at my place for free, doing nothing, and staying in colony for soooo loooong.
Even when there was a rocket set to automatic mode, flying up and down, and a lot of individual rocket landing (I was doing Vegan Achievement with a lot of people taking from Earth).
And btw. I don't remember that Tourist won't give you money. I thought, it was always like that.

Really? I think, my tourists leave together in the same numbers as they arrive, so I assumed that after 5 Sols they leave at the first opportunity. Anyway, I don't mind them just hanging around in the colony, by the time I can bring them in large numbers I have plenty of food and not enough jobs for all the regular colonists anyway.
 
Haven't used them much but maybe they wont get on rockets which are set to automatic for some reason?
Also, if the rocket is not landed close enough to them they probably wont get on it even if they are ready to leave.
Just like Earth sick colonists, if you land a rocket too far away, earthsick just stays I imagine it is the same for tourists.

Ok, this could be true. But honestly, I have never noticed an fact, that if someone is Earthsick and You place rocket far from dome, that colonist don't fly away.
 
I've had issues with the tourist challenge. I'm not sure what happened, but I've had no new tourists after the first few ones. Maybe the mechanism generating new tourists when previous ones come back to earth is buggy in some context.

But I suspect my tourists felt too comfortable and decided to stay instead of returning to earth to generate more. Anyway, if felt strange to be penalized for building a colony that comfortably welcome tourists, and I found no indicator of tourists that decided to stay, how many returned to earth, so I didn't have the relevant information to understand what was going on.
 
Hi Athmos.

Tourists don't stay in the colony, regardless of how comfortable it is to them. Make sure the rocket you are sending to return them to Earth has landed close enough to the dome where they are located, so they can walk to it. I hope this info helps!

All my rockets were in range of all my domes, but after I think two waves of tourists (2 in the founder waves, then 4 in the next rocket). No more tourists showed up wanting to come. I'll tick the glitch/bug checkbox on this one. I'll update when I retry the challenge, I have a few others left.
