I built a zoon and have society research plus some amenities. But it doesnt seem to be worth the building spot.

Sure but it doesnt seem to be worth it. Is there a tradition focus or something I can do to squeeze more out of them?
If you have biologists doing research on the planet: yes.
If you don't have biologists doing research on the planet: no.
It's a biologist boosting building in 4.0, basically a second copy of that Xenobiology Lab booster.
It's not a general holotheater replacement like it was in 3.14 and earlier, so it's not worth building on a planet without research going on.

In real life zoos are a negative income venture subsisting on donations from wealthy patrons. So it is within Stellaris.
They used to get buffed by domestication, but don’t think it’s currently working. I think they have higher base research than a biologist but I’m not at computer to check. Having free amenities is handy anyway.
