So close to perfect, this game is....it makes the flaws stand out more sometimes.

Anyway, not sure if this is a bug (seems like it) or another undocumented "feature". Here's my deal.

It's 1590, I'm playing England. Had a war with Spain a few years back. During the war, I occupied Luxembourg by taking it from Spain's rebel scum uprising, who had been occupying the city. When peace settlement came, I ended up negotiating for other territories, and assumed Luxembourg would go back to Spain. It didn't, I'm assuming because I took it from rebels (???) So now I'm at peace with Spain, but I'm still occupying Luxembourg. Spain has a casus belli against me (I'm assuming from this, they didn't have it before).

Now, several years later, Spain is back to it's normal tricks and have denied me trade. That should give me a casus belli against them. In fact, in the diplomacy screens, it SAYS I have a casus belli against Spain. When I try to declare war on them, however, I lose 2 stability "for not having a casus belli" against them.

Huh? There is something seriously wrong here. Can someone explain and tell me if there is a workaround for this problem?

Thanks!

Ah, and by the way, it's been much more than 5 years since my war with Spain if anyone is wondering if that had something to do with this problem. So unless something is very odd here, I think there may be a problem with the engine.

When the embargo is initiated, it sometimes takes the game engine until the start of the next month to apply the CB properly. Just wait a while and see if that solves the problem.

Holding Luxembourg is not the reason the Spanish have a CB on you. Are they Counter-Reform Catholic? Are you Protestant/Reformed? And has the Edict of Tolerance not arrived yet? Because that's the most likely cause for a Spanish CB on England.

maybe random event ?

Sometimes these trade embargoes are random events. As I human player I have several times got the message that I had a trade embargo against everybody, without the penalties (CB and less trade-development)

Well, I'm pretty sure it's a bug.

I discovered that exiting the game and restarting made everything work properly. (i.e. I had a casus belli and the engine recognized it).

This seems like something for the next patch, though.....it's kind of a pain to go through the whole Safedisk process again just to force the engine to recognize the event.

Thanks!

Like Heyesey said, some of the events don't get updated until the 1st of the month. Not a bug, just a way to make the game flow better. As for the CB, didn't you say you took some territory from Spain? That would give them a CB. They always have a CB against me.:D

I've had that situation with the rebel province in several games lately. Seems like it occurs when I haven't captured it until after the peace negotiations. The good part is I can send troops through that province anytime. Wonder what the effect on the next war will be? Perhaps you will have a star at the outset of war?

Only if it was a core province (Iberian peninsula, minus Portugal.) Merely conquering territory is not sufficient reason to give the aggrieved nation a CB: taking national territory (see your shields in the diplomatic map) is.

Or Spain would have a CB on him if he's converted to Muslim, of course :D

Yeah, Spain's CB isn't what concerns me. They have it because of that province I'm still occupying. It's the fact that they're refusing trade and even though it says I have a CB, it doesn't work when I DoW. The main issue is that the delay wasn't just until the next month. I exited and reloaded about 6 months later when I was still unable to DoW without losing stability even though it said I had a CB. I should have saved the game at that point so I could give more accurate info on the exact date.

Thanks! :D

In that case, it's a SNAFU. :D You should legitimately have a CB, so get to stability +3, declare war, F12, type "oranje" and carry on.

Youn seemed to ingnore this answer. The random event gives countries a CB free trade embargo.

True, but he says according to his diplomatic screen he DOES have a CB... so it's just weird.

Maybe he should declare war anyway and see if he does lose stability. Actually the messages are more often wrong then the engine.

I noticed with that event, that screens doesn't always are correct. When I had a free tradeembargo event, the numbers at my trade-slider gave a -98 penalty, but my trade wasn't dropping. The results of random events are sometimes shown on one screen, but hidden by another screen.
I think in this case weird is a nice description.
