Quick Q: Will you fix the ai so it works past the year 2000s?

No that would be beyond the expected functionality of the game.

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I'm having trouble extracting it. Whenever I try, two windows open up. The first is the normal one showing which file is being extracted and how much has been done, and every time a new file shows up there a note like this:

! C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Armageddon\Armageddon 1.3 Beta 2 - 24.04.2009 - PHVR.rar: Cannot create Armageddon 1.3 Beta 2 - 24.04.2009 - PHVR\ai\afg_1936.ai

I've tried several times, same thing happens.

If you have Vista... copy the file to a location like c:\downloads\hoi2Arma13

Then extract the file there...

I have a feeling you are hitting permission issues with Vista...

I want to bring to your attention this strange behavior I noticed.

I simply started a new Italy 1936 campaign and decided to ground attack ethiopian forces until they die.
when finally reached my objective, I found that instead of vanishing, the "dead" infantry division was replaced by a "ghost" armored division with a weird name.

I attach the savefile taken at the moment of this strange fact.

Yes, I also observed a strange thing as GER in SOV. There is an issue with ghost-units. I attacked somewhere in Karelia, SOV retreated (to north). I was bombing them continuosly. I moved then towards (north), so the retreated SOV units should have been under attack, but something strange happened: I got a spam of messages, that:

We attacked xy-province...
We attacked xy-province...
We attacked xy-province...
We attacked xy-province...
...

But there was no real battle, actually. I stoped the movement, and attacked again and later the phenomena was gone...

This is a very old bug that we have had alot of difficulty reproducing... since it does no real harm we did not put much priority on fixing it. And now we unfortunately don't have the time to fix it.

Thank you for reporting it.

Thx for answering.

Other Quick Q:
Is there any way you could remove the "crossfading" effect of the SFX?
It only affects the battle SFXs, but kills modding.

We do not plan on modifying the EXE unless it fixes a CTD type bug.

Anyway, to reproduce this bug, I simply started a new Italy 1936 scenario and ground attacked troops in Ethiopia with my tactical bombers. when ethiopian troops died, the weird division replaced them.
It worked for me, at least three times

How would one install this for the Hearts of Iron 2 Complete Pack downloaded from Steam? It doesn't auto update past 1.2 and I don't know how to install this.
Steam/Gamersgate/etc. won't update to 1.3 until it is 'officially' released to them by Paradox.

I can't guarantee this will work.

1) Make a copy of the folder that Steam installed Armageddon into (i.e., right-click, copy, right-click on an un-occupied part of that folder, paste).
2) Rename your new folder to Doomsday (or some other suitable name). (right-click, rename)
3) Download the Beta patch.
4) Open the RAR file.
5) Right-click on the folder in that file and rename it to Doomsday (or whatever name you chose in #2 above).
6) Click on the extract button
7) You should get a dialog asking where you want to extract it to. Point it at the Folder that CONTAINS the Doomsday (or whatever) folder.
8) It should ask if you want to replace files...say yes (if it doesn't you extracted it to the incorrect folder).
9) Go back to the Doomsday (or whatever) folder and right-click on the HOI2.exe file
10) Go to your desktop, right-click on an un-occupied part, and select 'Paste Shortcut'

That should be it, you just use the shortcut you created to launch the game (no need to launch Steam).

I got this bug frequently when bombing retreating div's ..

Hi.

Does the attrition tooltip shows values 10x higher than expected?

In the jungle the attrition tooltip says something similar to:
Code:

attrition: will lose 0.22 % strength a week
jungle +0.14 percent
no fuel /2
attrition modifier /1.10
efficiency *0.05 (db/misc.txt)

but if you calculate you'll have: ((0.14/2) /1.10)*0.05 = ~0.0032/day x 7 days = 0.0224/week = 0.22/10 !!!

so, in order to better check, I set the attrition modifier = 1 in db/misc.txt

and I found that attrition is now

((0.14/2)/1.10)*1 =~ 0.0636 /day x 7 days = 0.445/week but the tooltip says 4.45%

so I left my division in the jungle for a week but it didn't lost 4% of strenght, but after about 2-3 weeks it lost 1 % of strength. so I think that 0.44% is the correct value...

My general comment, and I guess these will be the final ones I will make about the patch, as I have seen it now, after having watched it play out numerous times at speed and hands off, is that the minor nations still do too much spying, and the cost or frequency should be lowered.

Set the IC base costs to 50 perhaps.

As well, I noticed a strange improbability the other day, where the Japanese twice attempted to coup the USA in the period of a couple of months, and I think the cost for this spy activity should be raised, substantially.

Also, I think the "delay production" spy activity should be moved to the wartime category of activities, since it is to my mind a very hostile act.

I am in full agreement.

It's kind of pre-war or in war. Or part of economic war. So IMO you are wrong.
Then it should cause "casus belli" so that the target can dow the offender.
