Danish + Venetian AAR

Aggresive first session of Denmark, with in the beginning the seek for new land and especially that juicy cot near her borders. But it was exactly her ally, dear Sweden ruled by the great Tonio, who opposed us. A desperate battle began with siege stealing everywhere to conquer as much North-German coastal area as possible. With ups and downs we finally failed to get our hands on the cot, but we got Mecklenburg and half of Pommern after Sweden annexed my vassal.

We also got some rather unexpected enemies in the west, with a sneaky attack they grabbed Bremen and Oldenburg. Though as time passed Sweden had build up a fleet, which was secretly hiding from our sight. And it soon came clear that we did not need to have Burgundy as enemy. Sweden dowed, which not really surprised us, but suddenly their were twice our galleys in our waters. Unfortunately they did not came as tourists. With our fleet defeated and our army in Norway annihilated, we couldnt do much and surrendered to prepare for a counterattack.

Diplomacy soon began as we were desperately in need of an ally, which we found in Poland. Sweden had taken curonia and hinterpommern, which wasnt to the liking of dear Poland. Ship building and strategy talks began, but suddenly it went black and the next day we were ruler of Venice  . I heared this was called a rehost. For more on this exciting episode watch FIL's AAR.

We soon accustomed to the nice weather and were finding ways to expand and improve this new nation. We began by taking the shambles that were left of Italy after Spain took the south and France were pushing very far in the north of Italy. We were able to gain Mantua, Romagna and Ferrara. Then we turned our eyes east where we found some claims on slavonic lands. Hum and Albania were taken and their former rulers are now loyal to the Venetian Republic.

The session was started by big competition between Scandinavians for north germany. There were no Brandenburg besides, but instead Burgundy went from west for the competition too. Poland went quickly annexing TO, and then vassalizing Bohemia, reserving big areas (together with Lithuania) and got big income.

Sander subbed Denmark at the beginning, and if he would be perm, i would prefer Scandinavian alliance. But i never met FIL before and consider him as newbie, and alliance with him would be too stressed. Relations with Russia and England were settled before the session. And if Labalag made fairly, Cicero later made total backstab.

Sweden dowed first Pommern-Mecklemburg-Holstein-Bremen alliance. Both Sweden and Denmark had monarch leaders, but Denmark had 2 leaders with rank 0 ! So I took over Holstein and Sander started to steal my sieges. Denmark refuce the right of Sweden to own any CoT, aiming to own two CoTs for themselves.

Then for some weird reason, 3K of Holstein kicked my 15K army via river in couple of seconds (perhaps some misclicked), which let Denmark monarch take over the siege over Holstein. There were a lot of moves, when Denmark took sieges of Sweden, and Sweden created attrition for Denmark, but finally Mecklemburg could kick Denmark troops from Holstein and Sweden now took over the siege there.

After this weird start, Denmark occupied Wismark, Mecklemburg, vorPommern. Sweden - Hinterpommern (after Denmark peaced them) and Holstein. Bremen was occupied by Burgundy, who seemed to aim to road for Mecklemburg too :)

That was some of stalemale - noone peaced, so Sweden couldn`t annex Mecklemburg, waiting Denmark would peace for Wismark. There were some negotiation between Scandinavians, Sander offered alliance for Mecklemburg, but refuced to give vonPommern. After all, Sweden annexed Pommern and Holstein CoT, then dowed TO, and annexed it too - anyway it was clear for us that Poland already started to build fleet, and their baltic domination couldn`t be allowed.

Half year later, when Denmark started to build fleet, Sweden immediatly dowed them with pre-build fleet advantage. Sweden started with twice less fleet than Denmark, but to the war i had twice more galleys. So Sund was blocked, one cavalry army of Denmark was killed (they had advantage of troops 50K vs 40K). Then Sander agreed to peace for Oslo and Skane. And then refuced session nap. I regreted i decided not to be greedy.

So Denmark and Poland built fleets, and Sweden has no other choice than dow Denmark five years later. A two month before i dowed (everything was ready), and England contacted me asking for MA and wanted to kick Denmark. They asked two good province - Jutland ans Schleswig and despite everything was ready for my strike, i agreed with them. Well, if anyone would know how Cicero is greedy and backstabbing...

Denmark was easily crashed, but then it was my mistake to consider was as almost over and saving troops at winter not to patrol whole Norway. We act friendly to England letting them siege their provinces and capital for WS, which was returned by dowing us later.

Sweden alone beated fleets of Denmark and Poland, and successfully killed all invasion of Poland, who put in Scandinavia about 50K, while whole support limit of Sweden was near 50K. Sweden moved there and back, intercepting enemies fleets and killing invasion. After all only 12 galleys of Denmark was left, and more than 60 galleys of Poland were killed. Whole invasion was killed too. Denmark was sieged and kicked in Norway, and we got already +38WS when England took 4 provinces from Denmark, backstabbed us and dowed, making it 3 on 1. Then Russia gave MA to Poland, which made absolutely idiotic picture of everyone vs Sweden. But then Labby understood mistake and by my request revoke MA for Poland, staying loyal Sweden friend.

Well, England fleet was less than Sweden even after i lost many ships vs Denmark & Poland, but he beated me by morale many many times. Totally i suppose i lost 1 ship vs 2 of England, that was probably of their offensive9 and +1shock. Again and again England beated me, blocking Sund for Denmark and Poland troops, beated by less fleet in my home waters, which was really bitching and unfair for me :) Finally once i could kill them good, down to 35 galleys. But at the end naval parity returned. Once England invaded Skane with Warwick shock5 with 30K cavalry, so i faced three enemies - Poland had two leaders with shock3 and England - one leader with shock5 (second is alive now).

Warwick was destroyed by brave Sweden and annihilated, after i trapped him with help of naval combat. After that Cicero stopped land invasion, going to pay lowest price, same like he acted vs Denmark. Poland lost many many troops, but their insane income let them tech & mint very well, but now they have less troops than Sweden even. Denmark successfully returned Norway and invaded Sweden even.

Muscowy (soon to be Russia :D)

The year 1453 was a year of great upheaval in Muscowy as a new ruler began his business and decided to expand his realm greatly. The problem was, there was not lots of room to expand into as Lithuania was guarded by the fierce and rabid Polish, the Golden Horde looked invincible and as the minors were too minor.

Thus we did the only thing we could do and attacked Novgorod. Unfortunately this attack was slowed by the absent of assault as we didn't have the required technology (The grandduke wonders why mere peasant would require technology to run up to a wall and dying while climbing it), so the war carried on for a few years untill we occupied every province so we were finally able to peace Novgorod for all but two of its provinces.

We had peace once again, but we grew bored of it rapidly, so we decided to attack the Golden Horde and it's juicy goldmines. The plan of attack was the same as with the Novgorodese, instead moving south instead of west. We also got into a wat with their vassals, the Crimeans, which would put us into conflict with the Ottoman Sultan, as he wished to get some nice beachproperty along the Crimean coastline, but we were able to settle our differences so he could continue to wage war against whomever he wanted.

This war also gave us knowledge of mysterious snowed in lands to the east of us, with nice shiny gold and nice COT's, which we undoubtedly would conquer next session.

A lot of stuff happend to the rest of Europe too, but this doesn't interest the Grandduke, since those lands are going to be vassals of the soon to be Russian Empire anyways. :D

AAR POR 145?-1473

I took over POR some years into the game. But nothing had been done by the previous perm as far as can see, not that I critisize that, it was fairly little to do.

When I searched the map I had big trouble seeing any possible target. Venice was ghosted so was off limits. Aragon was completly under Castillian control. Eire was an English vassal. What provinces could I take? What provinces could I loot for money?

Questions….. and at that time I did not know we had governors from start which meant war taxes was free of charge so to say.

However, at last I spotted a chance. The Mameluks was an independent nation and they possessed some maps. So I asked for permission from the Sultan to attack which the greedy Sultan accepted as long as I paid a fee. Well, whenever the Sultan in the future asks us for a favour he will know it won’t be one for free…. Anyhow we got those maps which gave us knowledge of some CoTs but as we had few merchants per year it was of no immediate use.

The Mameluks were in alliance with the Persians so we invaded their land and this was easy because most of it was under control of Ottoman forces. But then the Ottomans peaced and we were attacked by an equal numbered Persian army and they had strong morale while we only had disciplined so we were fairly and squarely beaten. What our expeditionary then did will not be revealed in this AAR.

So back to doing nothing. And that lasted for quite some time until we finally got our first explorer. He was sent to the South East and to the South West.

It will be interesting to see who will make the try to snatch our maps later on. The one who does it dooms himself to be the eternal enemy of the brave and hopefully rich nation of Portugal. A Portugal who will send lavish gifts to all that oppose this evil nation to be.

We went offensive and quality on our sliders and also +2 centra due to events.
We did not advance our tech one iota. All our techs are as they were at the start of the session.
A new experience….

Daniel, i played an awesome 2 years because we had to rehost to Cicero. After that i CTDed, and when we rehosted, i was told that i couldnt play anymore because i would CTD again (???).

As i like to make comparisons, i noticed that i was ghosted 4 years, because of the CTD, while Cicero was ghosted 2 years, because of the same reason. What makes Cicero get a rehost sooner then i? Is he special? And why didnt he got forcefully subbed as i did? He CTDed so many times as i did.

AAR OE 1453-1473

My first move was to attack some of the minors in Greece and take provs from them. I hoped Albania would annex Athens for me after I took one of the provs from Athens, but they allied with them instead, so I just took Epirus off them.
Not a big deal to annex here anyway, since you only get 3 BB.

I did however get the AI to work for me in the east. I don't remember exactly how it went down, but by inviting the AI minors to my alliances, they ended up annexing each other. I only ended up annexing one of them, I think.

I then turned to Persia, took a few cores from them. Then attacked Mamelukes after a few years and took Alexandria + Syria and Aleppo from them.

All this time I invested constantly into infrastructure. I got all my money from census taxes, often using war taxes to give them a boost. After about 15 years of investment I finally got infra 3 and soon started building manus. Spain loaned me about 2500D in total, allowing me to build 5 refineries with the 1000+D I'd already had saved up. They charged 4 percent interest, which though a lot on 2500D, was probably worth it to get the manus up in time. It's gonna be a strain on my economy to pay them off now though.

Venice AAR

As the years passed it became more and more clear our future was not secure as our spies noticed French troop and naval building. As we didnt know of any other enemy and had been threatened by France before, we knew the time had come.

Then there it was, immediately our fleet sailed out to meet any French ships around our islands. But they were clever and already landed on every single Venetian island before the fleet arrived, though we managed to kill some ships in the progress. The battle in Italy didnt go well, we immediately lost 2 battles and we gave up and retreated to our capitol.

Then we concentrated ourselves on taking our islands and Slavonic territories back. One by one they were being sieged back and besides several attempts from the French to halt our fleet it failed. But the French had another trick up their sleeves(how was it spelled again?). They sailed their fleet with troops right to OE territory ignoring our fleets. Though they lost a large amount of their inferior :p galleys, they landed at Constantinopel and happily walked to the unguarded Slavonic territories. OE did not make friends with this, except France, but what to expect from those infidels :D . As we had little troop support we couldnt be at our capitol, the islands and the Slavonic territories at once. And so it ended, the French still own our Italian lands untill the capitol and control the Slavonic lands. But the islands have been conquered back and now being in stalemate, the Venetion diplomats are travelling everywhere to search for allies. :D

AAR PORTUGAL 1473-1489

With a short exception for some stab investment we spent the entire previous session (after we took over Portugal) investing in trade tech to reach level 3. That meant some 13 years of full investment I think. This session we continued with this investement strategy. For a full 16 years. But we have still not reached that glorious tech level… :( But we are close, very close. :) Thanks to getting two colonial COTs we now get 5 merchants per year on stab +2 or more and thus towards the end have been able to increase our number of merchants around the globe and thus increase our income with some 45% during the session. We now have 64 merchants in action and we stand ready to take 4 monos as soon as we reach trade 3, giving us 9 merchants per year and then trade will blossom. Thus we expect our income to skyrocket the next session. We will see if we can reach Tonio’s expansion rate (a 164% increase this last session, although most of this increse was perhaps due to high WE at start of the session).

The next session will be the most important session there is for POR in this campaign. With Diaz (who arrived already in 1487), da Gama, Albuquerque, Almeida and Correos. Not to speak about the various lesser explorers and conquistadors. But for the conquistadors to be really succesful LT9 would be good to have. But we cannot reach LT9 for quite some time. We are only on LT4 presently. I play POR in Götter2 as well and there we started in 1492 with POR at tech 6-7-3-3. Now we are in 1489 and POR has techs 4-3-2-2. That is some difference! Anyhow, during the next session the Eastern CoTs will be start falling, at least if we play a full session of some 25 years instead of the one this AAR covers, a session that did not even start until 1 hour 10 minutes late. Shame on all latecomers. I personally arranged 2 subs and we still had problems getting started.

The session we played was for POR a session of preparation. Sea routes where opened, suitable waypoints where established to reduce attrition and indeed making it possible to travel around the world. In the West we now have open sea routes to middle North America and to the Carabean region - where a colony on Puerto Rico has been established. Most of the South American East coast has been mapped and we have travelled around Africa and up to Oman and finally we have reached Reunion, the outpost for quick transport over the Indian Ocean. We have had two explorers working for the whole session and as stated before, just before the end Diáz arrived.

We have established friendly relations with the nations of England and Burgundy and hope for a continued mutually beneficial cooperation with these two powers. But our closest friend is of course Spain. No big decisions will be taken without consultation with them.

We moved centra +2 and will move to off9 when we hit the middle of the 1490s. Sloppy focus meant we lost two years of DP moves at the beginning of the session.

Sweden AAR 1489

The session was rather quiet.
It was clear that Sweden is not able to fight vs three nations, specially when two CoTs are occupied. Noone could stabhit Sweden, but English navy with extra shock was too costy. So the negotiations went with English, so they were granted Holstein and changes the sides again. Denmark was loaded in SP, and it was clear for me that they need not much to get economical collapse with their 6 loans. Making navy back would let occupy their two islands again and prevent easily polish invasions.

So, the picture was confident, but both Poland and Denmark didn`t appear at the session. There were hard choice for GM to choose between playing Denmark and Burgundy to sub, so i`ve described what i`ve knew (6 Denmark loans and that they won`t be able to repay them with England on my side), and let GMs make their decision. After a while, it was decision to AI Denmark.

Between sessions negotiations with Austria were happened, and Austria started to doubt very much in Polish word, that Poland will let Austria inherit Bohemia. Besides current war vs Sweden let Austria go on Brandenburg lands without Polish intervention.. After some requests Archduke decided to go for Brandenburg and fight for Bohemia.

Lyko subbed Poland, and seeing new threat, reasonable tryed to reach peace with me, so soon Osel became Sweden domain... Denmark was killed several years later, but it took ages for England to occupy Greenland. After all, Sweden took lands from Denmark the special way, preventing other countries to take anything from Denmark without MA via Sweden. England took Iceland and Greenland.

Our worries were justified, when Poland dowed Denmark, and went occupying their capital. Poland as well increased fleet at Baltic "for nice fishing", which made enough worries for Sweden King. After some fun words of Polish King we could finally agree to session nap, but constant polish fleet building made Sweden King take care enough of fishing sectors and we went to outnumber much Polish fishing fleet. So in the end Sweden controls most fishing at Baltic.
