AAR OE 1774

First of all, a little recap:

In the last AAR, Sweden had just been overcome by the coalition and an invasion had been begun againt the Mughal Empire. The OE's fleet had been sent to the bottom of the north sea along with the entire imperial naval corps. Hundreds of thousands of brave young soldiers lost in their noble struggle, leaving the empire without a defense against pirates or hostile fleets.

The economy was growing, but nothing close to the thriving colossus of today. Badboy was just getting under control, but there was much expansion left for the Sublime Porte...

In the succeeding decades, the Mughal Empire was conquered completely. In the first war, some rich Mughal provs were seized, in the second, they were made vassals of the Empire, and ten years later they were formally incorporated into the realm.

Trade and Infra tech 10 was reached at last, and merchants were sent to the ends of the earth to bring the riches of the world to Ottoman ports. And these riches trickled down even to the lowliest, raising the standard of living to the highest in the world, save for that in Portugal... damn Portuguese.

Over the years, fortunes and fortunes were invested in the reconstruction of the fleet, and the retraining of sailors to man the new imperial navy. It was the most expensive endeavor the royal budget had ever accommodated, but accommodate it did, and in a 15 year period the fleet stood at 2000 warships.

-------------------

In 1752, the empire was ready for whatever could threaten it. The army and the navy were the largest in the world and the royal revenue the 2nd highest. And not a moment too soon, as it would soon be time to put them to the test.

Our allies, the Spanish and the French, became embroiled in war with Austria within the first few years of the session. The Austrians called in Russia, so it was now time for the Janisaries to go in. An army of 300,000 men and 2000 cannon was prepared to drop off on any Russian armies that tried to invade the Crimea. Thus we joined the war in full preparation of what lay ahead.

Poland was ahead by a CRT, at LT 51 to our LT 48 or so, but they never seemed to notice this, so I was allowed a 1v1 with Russia. Aside from the fact that Sweden was already invading Russia from the north, at least. My army disembarked and then engaged a Russian army of 100k or so, annhilating it, then another army that tried to join up with it, and I went assaulting through fortresses right and left up the Volga and then back down to the Crimea.

Meanwhile, my Asian army engaged the Russians in Samarkand, but they were less successful. The army was annhilated; I took too much of a chance and couldn't retreat at the last moment because of lag, but another army was easily raised and this time, the Russians were the ones that were annhilated.

They made a brief comeback, pushing me out of Taurida after a failed assault, but then lost all these gains when they pursued my retreating army, and were met with my reinforcements at the second the battle began. They were nearly annihilated.

There wasn't much more that needed to be done. Taurida was easily assaulted through and an attack on Suvorov's army was planned, but they accepted my first stabhit, so the war ended with me gaining Samarkand and two other border provs.

Now it was time to get the Poles. By now I had made it to LT 51, and landed an uber army on a polish 80k force that was sitting in a coastal prov with a leader. Didn't annihilate them then and there, but finished the job in the follow up battle. Then blitzed through Polish territory killing lots of armies. Had they been expecting this they might have made an effective resistance but instead they were routed at every turn, until the remaining Polish forces were finally massed together under their leader and made their counterattack. My army was beaten back, but not before conquering almost all of Hungary.

We skirmished some more, and they held their own in the meantime, but at the end of the session a new surge of reinforcements is about to arrive and the Polish resistance about to crumble. The war will soon be won.

The war with Poland was basically over, but due to some typical Polish stubbornness it lasted some more months, costing the Poles a few hundred thousand more unnecessary losses. Due to a mistake by the Sultan in thinking Oltenia would defect rather than declare independence, I had to strike a compromise peace with the Polish king, convincing him to reannex Wallachia and then cede Oltenia to me, and that way only having to also cede Jedison and one other prov instead of several provs altogether. Oh, and Austria gave up Serbia for a NAP.

The economy continued to surge.

My next political move was to declare war on Russia. They were on the brink of collapse already due to a costly war with Sweden, and gave in to demands instantly.

Then I dow'd Poland again and took a few more provs, bringing it back to what the original peace should have been. Most of Eastern Hungary was now in my possession again.

Meanwhile, England DOW'd Portugal. I told Spain that the OE would stay out as long as it remained a 1v1 between the two of them, so we both respected the 1v1. But England lost the war horribly, having to give up several coastal provs to Portugal. And this was not acceptable.

I built up my navy over the support limit to 2600 ships. I knew the enemy would have an incredible amount of vessels to throw at me, but it was worth a try. I figured I could outmaneuver them somewhere, being more agile with just one unified fleet.

And it played out like this. I DOW'd and landed a seige army in Rhodes while moving to malta to land another seige army. Before I could drop this one though, the enemy's navies intercepted me, beginning the greatest naval battle in history. My 2600 ships squared off against about 3000 enemy vessels. I inflicted slightly more casualties and then withdrew eastward. The enemy followed and this time suffered a horrible loss. They stayed a bit longer than they should have. All in all, the enemy lost about 2000 ships. I lost about 1200, and now I had a 1400 to 1000 advantage. I pursued the enemy fleets all the way back to Iberia and then dropped my assault army of 300k on Murcia where the Portuguese fleet anchored all by itself. After a failed assault, I landed again and took it, forcing the fleet out. They escaped without too many casualties though, and Spain dislodged my army.

I then retreated back and begin conquering Italy. Malta was assaulted, and Dalmatia, giving me enough warscore to stabhit Portugal seperately, and then Italy was conquered for the most part(though to no real effect, since it turns out Spain's stab costs are too low to justify sending stabhits).

Portugal and Spain have already recovered their numerical advantage as both sides frantically rebuild their navies, but there is some hope of retaining victory if England can rejoin the war in time.

The Glorious Russian AAR

The Great Reforms

Once i joined in as Russia, i found one of the mightiest empires history ever saw, in great dissaray. Ranging from economy to issues related to war. Everything was bad - DP sliders were moved towards innovativeness and centralization, and free subjects were nearly maxed as well (very bad things at this stage of the game). There were so many things to do in so little time that i didnt know where to start from. Either way, moved a slider towards decentralization. Russia surely needed less war exhaustion from wars (and some mp from vassals too) so i think what i did was right. The economy was a fiasco but there wasnt much i could do about it, since the game is nearly ending. So i tried to organize the army as soon as possible. This really pissed me - i couldnt muster major armies and march them from Moscow to Bukhara (or from astrakhan to st petesburg) without suffering major atrition and loosing a good portion of the army. So i raised a hellish number of forts on key provinces, to ease the atrition somewhat. I did something like a "railroad".

Then i was asked by Austria, which was at war with Sweden if i could attack their enemies (Sweden). I tried to be realistic and uhm. My army was only 200k men or somesuch. I barely had any artilery. My economy stinked. Atrition was a major problem even inside my nation. Sweden had maxed forts everywhere. My capital was right on the border with Sweden. Sweden enjoyed naval supremacy on the baltic. Swedish winter is HARSH and atrition looses would be unspokable. I asked for 1 or 2 years to get ready, but shortly afterwards (in less then a month) Austria peaces with Sweden.

Knowing Russia was amongst the worst countries on the current game, i wasnt stupid enough to take sweden on my own. So if i cant beat them, let me search another victim which i could. So i found that KJ was still at war with drake & daniel. The perfect oportunity arose! :)

Quickly napped Sweden for the current session, despite Austria's dissaproval. But i couldnt care less. Did FAL really think i could take Sweden on my own even if i had Suvorov? Obviously i couldnt. Even if i could, the looses would be unheard of. I also had a couple of "enlightment" historical events. Good events, but bad at this stage. I mean, Inno and centralization/free subjects arent needed now. I was trying to go the oposite way, but the historical events messed me up. What can i say? Everything was working against me! As usual...

The War versus the Turks

After i get everything in order, i tell drake to hold on 1 year and wait till the winter dissipates to invite me to his alliance. Once the time arives daniel is a bit sloppy and i have to pause for a couple of seconds to remember him. Once i am in, i start moving 8 armies in asia - 4 armies went to Suvorov, making up a total of 110k men. The other 4 armies near the caspian sea went to some mad random wardog. That one was also about 110k men.

While Suvorov marched to the CoT province of Karpat and Samarkand, the other wardog went to Persia to wreak some havoc on these minimal/small forts. Sadly this wardog lost his 3rd siege against a medium fort, and was rebuffed back to russia. Hopefully Suvorov is a bad ass and took the Karpat CoT and a big portion of Kazakhistan. Sadly for him, and for me, i understimated the OE and didnt have enough troops. At least, not enough to get as far as Samarkand. After a few battles in the Crimea against this wardog called King John, i luckily obliterate his army. I also noticed he wasnt really pushing hard on this zone, but was putting all his weight in Asia and near Samarkand. Probably he knew the CoTs would kill him WS-wise.

225px-Suvorov.jpg
Mighty Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov

The OE kept hiding his 150k strong army in my vassal, Bukhara (in order to protect Samarkand), so i just asked MA. Right afterwards i move more then half my army near Astrakhan to bolster Suvo's army. In a couple of briliant moves, both from the east and from the west, i surround John's army and march in for the kill with 200k inf and 600 cannons or such. The OE's 150k army vanishes into thin air, and with it, another turkish leader. After a couple more skirmishes the OE's army in Asia is totaly destroyed and i just march in for the kill reaching +99WS in no time, showing the world that even the weakest can make a diference. :)

Amazingly the Iberians werent doing so nicely despite what Daniel had told me before the session started. Either way, after asking for Astrakhan-Sarai for myself, Daniel peaces with the OE, giving himself Egypt and giving me the rotten province of Samarkand - which was surrounded by the OE, and wasnt conected to me via land.

I wasted a fortune, and the lifetime of suvorov, for a single rotten province that i couldnt even defend. Hopefully Portugal had taken egypt and that made the OE receive... NO MP FROM AFRICA. haha! But as this AAr states, all i earned from this was "glory". Glory doesnt feed anyone nor did it make me stronger... Bleh!

To make things even better, a partition of poland event fired, and i received 4 protestant provinces. Just what i needed! More undefendable provinces!

This Russia was full of achilles' heels...

Peace for 6 years... Hurray!

Yep... After the OE got a beating an unsteady peace took place in europe... Apart from evil Sweden that was trying to annex the mighty poles and austria getting yet another beating this time against france. Poor suvorov died in 1800, but he acomplished his mission. Since i was napped with sweden for this session only, i try to make full use of the remaining years to get ready to be spanked. Major fortifications were erected, but i regret of doing so. Forts are usually good but they dont suit my kind of warfare, and they are too costly to re-take in troops terms. I wish i could demolish forts in eu2!

Gah!

Tried to bolster economy and some other stuff while at peace too, hopefully it made my economy rise 1000d in so little time. I am a genious!

I also sold these 4 useless polish provinces to Sweden for 6000 gold... Not much, but at least it will not give them cheap WS. In the meanwhile, the OE attacks Spain-Portugal again. I decide to remain neutral this time. Didnt have suvorov and since session was near the end, it would mean i would be facing 2 enemies from both sides next session, since the NAP with sweden was about to expire. It doesnt mean i will avoid being attacked from both sides next session, but i believe the turks will know how to repay the kindness that i did to them by staying neutral (in a positive way i hope).

But what truly scares everything out of me, is this...

I think, i never saw so much artilery in a single country, specially sweden... I just pray that the winter will aid me to soft this up. Either way, i need HELP. I dont care if its Austria, England, Portugal, France or even China... I just need aid. :p

And as usual, i am left thinking... How did anyone loose wars and so many provinces as Russia with Suvorov's leadership? Most probably that someone got a newblet to sub them so they could get a beating.

The result of the war was still up in the air. For the next few years, I wasn't going to be able to keep up with Portugal's industrial capacity as both warring sides tried to rebuild their fleets, but England was about to join by DOWing Spain which would force Portugal to break the truce it had with England, lowering Portugal's stab to -3. I was still able to stabhit Portugal seperately, so finally this would mean mass revolts for the Portuguese, and continued constant stability investments, which would inevitably lead to their 75kD treasury being worn down within 2-3 years if they kept up their current build rate.

When England joined, the Portuguese and Spanish began to divert their forces northward, thinking the English to be the easier target to kick out of the war right away. English ships docked and awaited my fleet, which sailed right away, some 2000 warships. We made battle with the Iberians off the coast of Yorkshire soon after, with England's 600 warships joining in. At first it seemed to be in our favor, but swung toward the enemy at the end. A couple other skirmishes were won by placing Nelson in command, but the enemy rallied again and regained superiority.

It was time for my fleet to go back to the med and rejoin with the reinforcements I was building there. I was chased the entire way, my 150 ship fleet was reduced to barely 100 by the time it reached there(thank god my admiral was 5 maneuver), but the galley fleet I'd been gathering was ready, with a nice amount of warships to boot, and the Portuguese that were pursuing, though they had some initial successes, had a tough time cost ratio-wise when they tried to take down my mixed galley fleet. They were sent packing in the end, and back to England.

Meanwhile the Russians had declared war. It was something I'd expected before the session began. Suvorov was still alive and had nothing to do, since a NAP was made with Sweden. I had ample forces ready in Asia. And getting men ready to send to the Crimea would not be hard, but it's not easy managing a major war like this, where half your time needs to be spent just recruiting armies and navies, much less watching every theater of war and moving troops appropriately.

Anyway, enough bitching. Well, the war with Russia didn't go well, so it might sound like bitching anyway :p. I had almost all my generals vaporized, one after another. Either I wasn't watching, or they just couldn't escape from Suvorov's maneuver rating. To sum up the Russian campaign, Russia's army, though smaller, was much better led and more efficient- my forces, besides being divided between fighting the Iberians, were not given the attention they needed and were in a lot of cases simply outgunned. So in the course of the war, the Russians gained a ton of warscore. In the end they were what won it for the Iberians.

The war with Iberia went well enough. My forces fought back and forth in Italy. They failed one attempt to isolate my fleet, because of some miscoordination on their part, and so I managed to win a couple outstanding battles against first Spain, then Portugal, kicking them back to Iberia. Alliance warscore was getting to be negative though, because of Russia's successes.

I couldn't penetrate enough into Italy because Spain now kept a very powerful army there with a good leader. Though I tried, and it was an entertaining seesaw campaign in there. England was tragically soon forced out of the war- I had an army ready to ship out to try to save them but was just too slow. I went on to win another great victory against the Iberian fleets though, near England itself, as I sailed over to try to save them. Sank the Iberian fleet entirely, and most of the Portuguese navy. So the Iberians were basicly lost at sea, though they may have been able to recover over time. I now went back to Italy and did some serious damage. I had 99 warscore on Spain for a long time.

But then Portugal shipped an army into the Red Sea for a sneak attack on Egypt, captured the prov, and sent its first stabhit which I accidentally accepted. I might've soon been forced to accept a stabhit anyway, but I'm pretty sure I would've retaken Egypt by then at least, so I could let go of something less important. Though it really didn't make much of a difference in the short run, only lowering naval support by about 500(from over 2600).

So the first war ended in a bitter defeat, but 5 years later the next war began. My fleet was built up to 1600 ships, I dow'd Spain, drawing Portugal in, started seiges of Rhodes and Malta, and then the enemy fleets arrived. I immediately retreated to my home waters, and won an incredibly battle. They came with 2000 ships between the two of them, and when the battle was over, they left with only 1100. I had only lost 100 ships. And then England joined, turning a somewhat orderly retreat into a total rout. The English fleet helped me finish off the Spanish navy of about 350 ships, leaving only the Portuguese, who we soon were chasing from port to port in Iberia, landing our armies of hundreds of thousands into Andulacia, marching into Portugal and then making attacks on Tago, which so far has been successfully defended. Spain lost most of a 300k army when a failed assault was broken up by a landing by Wellington. With Cochrane leading the English fleet now, the Iberian fleet will soon be annihilated when it is forced out to sea, and then we will be able to finally recover everything we've lost, and set the score in our favor a little.

I hope it doesnt matter if i am asking them a bit late. :)
