Registered. The load game crashes aren't replicable sad to say. Few loads are fine, then it just crashes during a load but after I restart the game it loads just fine. Wrong forum though but just wanted to say something about them :p Now, back to the game. Damn demers! They've wiped most of the AI's, pretty soon I will be alone... :(

Warlock was a very good game.
Now w/ the Armageddon DLC it is fantastic.
I have been having so much fun. I lost the first 4 games because I was ignoring events and just building up my area slowly. Now I know you have to expand out far enough to help the AIs take out gates in thier area as well unless you want to be overrun.
I think the gates need to have "True Sight" because two flying invisible Vampires is enough to win the game as long as you wall off your kingdom so you don't get overrun.

I've been really enjoying it. It's a challenging single player experience that really tests your skills. You have to actually do difficult stuff, and the payoffs for good choices are more meaningful. Glad that it has been added as a game type.

Really enjoying it to. I have to keep pushing my borders and my land, but also keep a constant taskforce at home to deal with desmers. In old games it was 95% push and rest defence, now its closer to 50% push, rest def.

This is a pretty awesome DLC - finally picked it up and boy does it change the game. Its much much harder now I'd say and much more exciting. Those Dremer are hard to kill!! I'm impressed with where the devs have taken this game - it's only going to get better. Only problem is that I can't see myself ever going back to the old game mode now

Love the DLC, had first game on impossible where I was doing very well (with some major setbacks, including having to pull up my main gold city at one point)... spending every turn casting lands of the dead to keep my undead lands free of taint... And I had to abort my portal exploration twice because of events going down in my empire...

Then my lone AI opponent finally fell some 100 turns into the game or so (lasted pretty long really), and now half the map was getting completely turned to dremer lands, and pressure just increased slowly... finally gave up when I lost my best units who were the only ones able to keep the dremers back, and lost my most important cities...

Then I had like 2-3 games I lost really fast because of bad luck... having dremers enter the world at turn 27 or so, right near me, barely handling it, then another appearing right after, then a volcano right next to my capital... it's brutal... but fun :)

It's also somewhat reminiscent of the book series Codex Alera by Jim Butcher, that also has an enemy that converts lands into their corrupted support lands, and has a Great Mage to withstand the invasion...

A few thoughts on balancing Armageddon:

I'd like to see the initial dremer towers to be a little weaker offensively, but the dremer warriors be a bit stronger. Maybe 24 base damage on the warrior, 12 elemental damage on the building. Since the towers attack the turn they spawn, it can be a bit too random to have important early game units destroyed by them. And late game the dremer warriors are pretty pathetically weak.

The 'Anchor' guardians are all over the place in strength. You have really weak ones like the diamond elemental, and really strong ones like the Water Elemental. I think they could be normalized just a smidge.

Lastly, the AI needs to seriously stop going to war so much. It's absolutely insane that they're getting steam rolled by other worldy demons, and decide to attack you for pretty much no good reason. There should be a major diplomatic change in their behavior, only being aggressive when they aren't actually threatened by the Dremer.

I am having a blast with this new DLC, however, why is the Dragon Queen's race humans? Shouldn't she also be Elves? I also agree that the AI could be a little more prone to take out the Dremer in their area. That being said I started a game with all the "priest" mages and it's been a blast. :)

I want to play Dremers . It would be a unique race. Living building. Parasitism. Of course, it should not have such strong units at the start. But I want to play Dremers!

Its a constant rush with dremers, now im out of mana then im out of food then there is no money. Always on edge.
I started with arethi and the flying ships are really good against dremer gates. If you have 3 of those you can destroy a gate in one turn.
Shame they get damaged when over corrupted terrain, even though they are flying.

I just lost a game on impossible, large and continents...
I had everything contained (bowmasters are simply amazing at containing dresmers), and had populated/cleared one world. Then disaster struck...

On turn 90 or so volcanoes suddenly erupted on my two most important towns, the one that produced my airships, and the one that produced my Bowmasters.
So now I could not make any more of my two main units, and the dresmer mages one-shoots my bowmasters, and I simply got overrun :(

Lesson learned... don't rely on a few towns...

I don't like "gamey" tactics (stun arrows borders it, I know...), so was a very rough ride.

Maybe dremers shouldnt enter ardania prior to turn 50, at early stages game difficulty has allready been increased with the new patch, new monsters and portal spawning.
One of the things that crossed my mind is to have a large land rising in the middle of ocean then pop a settler there and get independent city with 6 tiles. Seems the safest thing when expanding.

No, difficulty does not determine what turn they show up. I'm on turn 28, lowest difficulty, and I've had 2 spawn next to my capital as well as a volcano spew lava all over my capitals land. Game over before I'd even started cos I can't kill the dremer yet and I'll never have any cash thanks to the lava adding +3 upkeep cost to a significant number of my buildings. Extremely poor design when you have to restart over and over due to RNG. And then there's the frequent CTD's and horrible lag.

@Ino-Co
Maybe have them scale with turn and difficulty, eh? If I choose easiest difficulty I don't expect to be in a no win situation within 28 turns. And please, please fix the crashes and nasty lags.

When playing armageddon, I always assume that a portal will appear next to my capital around turn 25 (hopefully not two, but yeah have had that happen too), and plan accordingly... starting with lesser weakness spell helps a lot since it weakens the warrior enough that it's easier to hurt, and make sure you have plenty of ranged units... even basic archer types can take down a dremer unit and gate if you have enough of them... more so than in base game you can't just rely on a minimal army while expanding...
