A very good title. Seleucid-smashing is always fun :)

The Death of The Wolf

As years passed since the last war with The Seleucids, Rhoxolani and Colchis decided to stop paying their tribute. Conscient of the Seleucids being still powerfull even if he had took a huge part of their Kingdom, Mithranes considered that he no longer needed tributes from weaklings.

Mithranes was now near 70 years old and prefered to focus on domestic policy. Seing how the temples of Armenia were decrepit, it was only a matter of time before the Magi would come to beg for new funds. During a rainy night in october, one of the main temple in honor of Ahura Mazdâ took flames and the people were really upset. The fire was a representation of God and many started to think that a bad omen would come sooner or later...

rome_77.jpg

Some days later, Mithranes went back again to wage war against the 2 northern tribes. He considered that the price of the repairation of the temple would be paid with the bloods of his ennemy. While, away from home, Mithranes finally received the Title "The Conqueror" among his people.

rome_79.jpg

Soon after the end of the northern campaign, Mithranes came back to his palace. Some days later, he received news about the Seleucids deciding to stop paying their tribute again... Men were once again gathered, but Mithranes decided to remain home and let his generals do the dirty work. It seems it proved to be a decent idea because some days later, his Chief Buildar came up with a plan to restructure the roads of the capital (-30 gold, + 500 construction point! :D).

rome_83.jpg

As the generals were starting to move to the ennemies province, Mithranes gathered is spies and took a quick look at the Seleucids generals. With a decrepit look, he realised that they were all veterans... Ahura Mazdâ had choosen to defy once again Mithranes in his desire of World Domination.

rome_82.jpg

Not knowing what to do, nor to think, Mithranes gathered all the girls in the court for a huge feast. The night should never end to make sure that the Armenians would remember their past glory if they were to lose it... During that night, Mithranes gave a lots of gifts his friends. He knew that in the worst case it would come back anyway in the Kingdom coffer one day or another...

rome_96.jpg

Mithranes wake up the next morning with less money in his pockets... Not knowing why, he took a chew at some spinet wine. What a better way to stop and headache then to make another crazy day he tought. As he was going to start drinking, an emissary from the Seleucids arrived. A white peace was offered and accepted quick enough. The veterans generals where just too much to handle for now. When the emissary left, Mithranes drinked in glass of wine in a shot. That was going to be a good day. Peace was back, money was coming in constantly and the people were happy. Mithranes then decided to go down on the street to salute his people. Far from being a charismatic leader, he chose to not speak directly to his people, he only took a public bath for his own satisfaction and celebrated a huge festival with a lots of wines and fine womens. Luckyly for the Armenians, not everyone in the world was enjoying the same thing!

rome_87.jpg

Years seemed to pass without too much happening. Another campaing in the North which led to the annexion of Colchis, a lots of wines poured in the Kingdom and the feeling of something terrible... Good times were always a sign of an upcoming bad event... Mithranes knew it since he was wise, but he had become lazy and some of his men were tired of it. When the King decided to retire Palacus from his functions to appoint him to a new army, he refused to leave his troops and sent a warning to Mithranes. By the hand of the year, Mithranes head should be in his hand and he would free the people of a drunkard who lost his mind.

rome_96.jpg

Furious, Mithranes sent a letter to all of his governor to recruits troops. The civil war should not last or else the Kingdom of Armenia could fall with it. After all those years, the King wasn't ready to let it all end because of one man. Ahura Mazdâ decided to use the man he sent to Mithranes to test once again the king. Should Mithranes die, it would be his fate, but he wasn't going to let it happen without a fight.

When Palacus arrived at Sophene he fought a new comer (9 martial!) in the mountains. The battle was fierce, but Palacus being a veteran, he chose to withdraw is troup to Mygdonia, the only province loyal to him.

rome_99.jpg

When Palacus arrived at Mygdonia, he found himself trap between the army who was pursuing him and a 3000 horses archers ambush. The war was a carnage, in fact, only one armenians died and it was because he falled from his horse while trying to jump on it just before the final battle...

rome_100.jpg

When Palacus was captured, the national hero was sent directly to Mithranes. For him, there would be no trial, no pity... No one should ever think to betray Mithranes again and he would serve as an example. When Palacus came in face of Mithranes, he stood like a fierce warrior and he looked in the king's eyes.

Palacus: "You are a fool to let your people down after all those years. I gave you my allegiance so you could free our people from the Greeks oppression, but instead you keep your time drinking and flirting with women. You are nothing but a crazy drunkard who needs to let his sons take is place! I'll never forgive you for arresting my family!"

Mithranes: "You dare judge me? I, who is stronger then Ahura Mazdâ himself! I shall not let you ruin my dream! (The King walked over a table who was recovered with a nice golden blanket. He pulled it up revealing the heads of Palacus family)."

Palacus: " Son of a...

An arrow then entered Palacus throat from behind.

Mithranes: "This is what happen when you try to mess with me..."

Mithranes pulled his sword while Palacus slowly fading. Kneeled in front of Mithranes, his head lift up and looked into the King's eyes with frustration. Soon, his head was on the floor. Mithranes ordered his soldiers to get out of the room and to leave alone. He soon took the head of his friend and sat on his throne, looking into Palacus eyes... The Wolf was dead... The Armenians had lost their hero...

At this point of the game i'll let you guys suggest me a little. It seems like there's plenty of readers, but not much people post their suggestions(i'm like that too). So, maybe it will give some more immersion into this, but it will be even more interesting for me to continue this one with some feedbacks. Some might have realised that i took Syria from Egypt, i did this while i was in war with the Seleucids. Egyptians had a cival war so i took that province and asked for a quick peace right away. I should have wait and took Phonoecia to make the bid "A" but i forgot... That would have been cool, Mithranes dream would have come true ^^ Anyway, i hope you're happy with my me continuing instead of making another aar with armenia in 2.1!

So he is dead. He did his country well. And a nice death scene.

I don't really have any suggestions about gameplay - it's been too long since I have played Rome.

Fare thee well, great Mithridates!

AS to gameplay, I don't own Rome so I can't help you there, but hey, as long as you are writing, you are making at least me and stnylan happy! :D :D

Oh, a very nice chapter indeed. What a bad way to die too. I wonder what his last thoughts were

Suggestions...trading? I don't know as I don't have VV and I have never played as Armenia.

I didn't had a lots of time to play recently so i'll post the update january 1st. As for Palacus though, i think he was thinking about creating a dictatorship :p It shall never happen with Mithranes! He's way too suspicious with all the alcohol he drink, hell, he would even kill his wife if needed... Is son (if he survive) will be different, i'll try to figure out how he will be eventually with the traits he'll gain.

A New Era in Sight

Since the Death of Palacus, Mithranes was more of a shadow in the politics of the Kingdom. In fact, Mithranes in order to cheer himself up, decided to send his wife in jail and took for a bride a younger wife.

rome_4.jpg

It didn't take long before a bastard girl was born from a court lady... From another woman... Not the bride, another one... So he's a drunkard/crazy/aggressive/pervert  (I created a monster!!)

rome_7-1.jpg

Since his last war with the rebels, his son Gobryas (a son who shouldn't have a bright future...) who was wounded started took care of the politics. Far from being as ambitious as his father, he started to promote the construction of building and the reformation of the army for the next war. While Gobryas was putting his health behind the politics, Mithranes was becoming more and more crazy. The king was starting to think that the queen might had the visit of someone of his court during his absence. He was feeling guilty about it even if he had himself a bastard girl. The King was becoming older by the day obviously and things that didn't matter before were starting to tick him off (79 years old!).

rome_8-1.jpg

With the reformation of the army, Gobryas started to send some assassins against the Seleucid Empire in order to get ready for the next brawl and was succesful in his first attempt (1 less general with 10 martial). He even was able to restructure the canalization of the water of the Kingdom in order to irrigate the desert (+500 points in construction).

rome_13-1.jpg

Those days of peace however didn't last very long. The Bosporan Kingdom declared war on Armenia with the help of the Seleucid and Pontus. With a new war emerging, Mithranes decided to take back the rulership and put the 3rd person in the succession, his second son Sarsamas.

rome_14-1.jpg

With that new war, Mithranes started to send some spies all around the Seleucid Empire. The Armenian Kingdom in order survive would need to take care of the generals of the Seleucid and maybe gain some new core on their province.

rome_18.jpg

With the war underway, Bosporan Kingdom was gaining the Northern most provinces of Armenia, Pontus had fallen in less then 1 year giving up Trapezia. Has for the poor Mithranes, his son Gobryas died because of an old battle wound, thus letting Gobryas son become the new heir (0-0-1 stats, 1 year old...).

rome_26.jpg

Not having anymore interest in fighting after the loss of his son, Mithranes decided to give up Coraxi and the newly acquired province of Trapezus to the Bosporan Kingdom, after all, those provinces wasn't worth much and one less enemy could really help. However, the worse was to come. Unable to bear the burden of having given some of his land to the ennemy, Mithranes died in his sleep in november 14 at the year of 507 AVC.

rome_29-1.jpg

The Armenians representatives quickly decided to make a peace offer to the Seleucid. A tribute would be offered to them each month. Armenian had now a knee down the ground in front of the Seleucid. If Mithranes tought in the past that he had "finished" the Seleucid, the future for the new King was now desperate. Armenia had never suffered such a huge loss and young boy was far from ready to rule over a Kingdom and he was also unpopular... Sarsamas was for everyone the only capable man.

rome_30.jpg

Some days later however, the King died in his sleep and Gobryas son rose to the throne at the age of 1 year old (damn i wanted Sarsamas). His son, Gotarzes Aramid, had also the same illness has is father, so the court was rather sceptical about his future and a huge coalition was ready in case of his death to support Sarsamas.

rome_31.jpg

I'm sorry if i didn't write much this pass weeks, i was rather busy and i didn't feel like playing EU: Rome. I'll try to keep up 1 update per week now.

I didn't took a lot of screenshots in my last war because i was bullied like i never was before. The main reason was because i had shitty generals while the Seleucid had only 10 (2 or 3) and 9 martials... I got beat up badly, i'll have trouble coming back without any help, so if i see Egypt or Parthia going in a war with them, i'll take the -5 stab hit and roll them over to make sure they never get up again. As for the Bosporan, even if i consider them being far from a threat, they will now obviously going to get a beating in a near future, but Seleucid comes first.

The only good thing that happened during those 6 years was the rise of the second son of Mithranes, Sarsamas (6-5-6 if i remember). I put him in the front line instead of a 7 martial general in order to get his popularity up. I don't need another civil war and i hope the actual king die from an "accident"

Sometimes you have to know when to quit - even against the AI.

Mithranes did have an entertaining old age though :)

wow, that's a harsh thing to say to your wife!!! :D

What would you do if your wife gave birth to 3 kids and 2 of them died of illness? He did the right thing :p

Mithranes is a huge loss for Armenia, his stats were rather normal, but at least he was loved and he wasn't a sick kid! I hope Sarsamas, the 3rd son, reach the throne quick. I'll try to switch for a new goverment, a monarchy seems to give me crappy generals and I can't hope to survive against the 3 superpowers around me.

Rome seems to be pacific for now, but you never know with them... Egypt's the same as Rome, they are not aggressive and didn't get any new provinces in a while. The Seleucid is stronger then i thought. I was already trying to kill his generals before the war, but the Bosporan stopped my plan. So i have my doubt that in 5 years there will be another war and if i don't get any better generals before then i might start losing some ground in the area. Iberia didn't join me in my war, so i'm thinking about killing them. Pontus could be a great addition, but then i would have a border with Rome, which i'm not interested in. I got no navy and i don't see any use of it until i kill the Seleucid. So i think that in the next decade you'll see more bloods and more tears!

(I already though of a new trait to the next King :D)

I suppose you're right...

Tonight i'll post the update of the Armenian Kingdom: The little King and the Goats. I use the Eastern time, so since it's 10am actually, you'll have to wait for around 12 hours. Until then dear readers, enjoy the wait!

The Seven years of Peace, a story about a King and his goats.

Alas, the time when Armenia was strong and mighty seemed far away since the last war with the Seleucid. The Kingdom was reduced to a mere tributary state, no mans were left for the army and a young kid, Gotarzes Aramid, was on the throne in place of our Feu Mithranes. With Romans in the west and Egypt to the south, Armenians were trying to live each of their days like if it was the last. Scientifics progresses were booming (+30.6%) and the economy was still on a roll even with the Seleucid tax.

rome_2-1.jpg

With Gotarzes on the throne, some governors eventually tried to take advantage of the situation by stealing some money from the treasury. It didn't take long before those news reached the ears of Sarsamas who promptly left to see his nephew.

rome_3.jpg

Strangely, the kid was never in the court, he was rather staying at half top of the Kaputjugh with and old Shepherd. The Armenians had a myth about a Shepherd. It is said that a man who would've been feed by a sheep would change the world.

When Sarsamas arrived at the house of the little king on the Kaputjugh, he immediately saw the young Gotarzes playing among the goats. It didn't take long before Sarsamas thought about the myth. If that child was going to change the world, he couldn't do a thing about it... Being a little like a zealot, Sarsamas decided to let the kid live to please Ahura mazda. However, someone needed to rule the city while the child was a kid. So Sarsamas decided to ask the old shepherd what he would like Armenia to look like before he died... After all, the shepherd was responsible for the education of Gotarzes, what he would say would have a consideration in the ears of the heir.

The old shepherd looked at Sarsamas with a surprised lool. He didn't thought for one second that someone has important has the heir would ask about is opinion... He answered calmly that if he would be king, he would build schools and in the agriculture. For him, the heart of Armenia wasn't the Armenian territory nor his army, but the trust of the people in their culture. A strong country is a country well knowed... Sarsamas stayed for a whole day in this paradise far away from the battlefield. However, in the next morning he left with his idea set on how to rule as the regent. He ordered the execution of the governor who stole from the treasury and started the construction of a forum in Commagene in 4 Nov AVC. He then chose to appoint a personnal friend as the new governor.

rome_4-2.jpg

As the times was passing, nothing much seemed to happen to Armenia. Gotarzes was still trying to learn how to talk properly while Sarsamas was trying to reinforce the walls of Babylon, the jewel of Armenia. Eventually during that year, Egyptians rebels started a civil war. Sarsamas, who disliked the old King of Egypt, supported openly the rebels by sending them some gifts in hope of making one day an alliance to crush Armenia's rival, the Seleucid. That second year of peace was starting rather well, until Armenia got the blessing of Ahura Mazda. The usual april flood didn't occur and the future harvest would probably better then the previous years.

Gotarzes eventually started speaking and the first word he spoke was: "Poo... Goats poo...". Amused by it when he first heard it, the old shepherd sent a letter to Sarsamas. Being an uncle and the Regent, it was Sarsamas duty to sometime leave the palace and see Gotarzes, after all, that kid could eventually become the savior of Armenia like it was prophetized... So Sarsamas was wondering... Was there even a child who said "Goats poo" for his first words before him... Maybe Sarsamas was like Mithranes, maybe was he a little foolish. But he still spent time with Gotarzes, looking at him put his hands in the poo and pouring it all over the goats. He seemed to have so much fun here, far away from the assassins. After having spent sometime with him, Sarsamas went back home feeling a little dizy. On his way back he figured out something... The goats poo was plentiful in Armenia, and the western part of the Empire had no fertilizer. If the Shepherds could move though the kingdom with their sheeps, it could split the ressources in two, resulting in better harvests for the people! So Sarsamas decided to open Sophene for all the Shepherd, 50 pieces of copper would be offered to all the Shepherds who would bring their goats. With due time, the poo would eventually irrigate the province and with the goats running all over the kingdom, they wouldn't be able to eat all the grass!

rome_10-1.jpg

While the time was passing by, the young Gotarzes was getting older with the time. He was 4 years and was starting to realize what he had become, the king of a kingdom. He couldn’t handle a kingdom on his own and he knew that a lots of people were waiting to take his place…

rome_12-1.jpg

Yet, the biggest treat wasn’t inside the Kingdom, but outside… The Seleucid, Egypt and Rome was waiting for a chance to put down the Armenian Kingdom to it’s knee. Gotarzes, being young, was an easy prey to its neighbor. It didn’t take long before an enemy appears before Armenia. The Bosporan Kingdom started to disrupt the opinion of the people toward the new king. They were trying to convince the people that the young kid was too young to rule the country and that the greeks could do better!

rome_17.jpg

With turmoils at the door of Armenia, Gotarzes unable to handle his own health died of illness.

rome_20-1.jpg

Sarsamas, who thought that the young Gotarzes was the “chosen” one, didn’t take long before he started to declare himself the King of Armenia. Almost as soon as he declared himself the new King of Armenia, Rome was declaring war on the Seleucid… Ahura Mazda was on Sarsamas side, the heaven was shining on him! After all… THIS IS ARMENIA!!

rome_21-1.jpg

Those years of peace were rather unpleasant since i'm a warmonger. At least those years helped me to rebuild my empire. I took some time to rebuild my army, i build a lots of stockades and other improvements. The big picture is, i got a good economy and a so so army (I think the Seleucids can still beat me).

Get ready for the next chapter, THIS IS ARMENIA!
