Ok, I've got another stupid question. Should I only mobilize units in times of war? I tried keeping one regiment raised, and it took half of my income. So does anyone keep armies mobilized? Thanks.

Yes, only raise armies when there is war (or you need to defeat some rebel scum). And when disbanding, don't know how it is with DV but in basic CK try to only do it in the country you are part of since that will let you have it at the size it currently is rather then have it at a minimum size, less wait for it to get to decent size for the next fight.

To be specific :) ... when disbanding in your own realm (vassals' provinces are ok too) you lose about 10% of the regiment. If you do it outside your own realm, then it is 90% or close to it.

And yes regiments cost an arm and a few legs, so only have them mobilized when needed. If you for some reason want to keep a regiment mobilized outside or wartime, then sit it in a province with roads, and if the regiment size is below the province's supply limit, then you can set upkeep to 0 with no attrition. Just remember to set it back up when the regiment leaves the realm or it will dwindle away in no time.

Also remember that the regiment itself does not replenish itself while mobilized.

Ok, thanks guys. I thought of two more questions.

1) Can more than one regiment be raised from each province?

2) What factors determine how many men each raised regiment contains?

1) No.

A question of my own, may I ask why you tried to keep a regiment mobilized?

Edit: I'll give a shot at 2) Technology, farming and such, castle size, time in in game.
That is a guess.

I guess I'm just so used to playing EU3 or Rome, it was just natural. Although of course I know not to. :D

2) Province income mostly. This includes modifiers for Ruler's and Steward's Stewardship ratings. Things like ruling law, terrain and distribution of power in the 4 classes also have an effect on regiment size and composition.

Alright, thanks for the answers.

Since this thread is around I'll ask here.

Can you get knights in the Norwegian provinces? What power settings for the populace does that require if possible?

As far as I remember you cannot have knights in Mountain and Swamp provinces. But any norwegian provinces other than that should be able to field Knights.
