Ahhhhhh !!!

I have a business laptop from my company and have several business trips a month where I have to stay in hotels.

So I decided to install HoI on it for my hotel evenings, but..................
its Windows NT !!!!!!!!

So it doesn't run with Win NT, is that right ????
(unfortunately, we get Win XP earliest at the end of this year  )

Yup, and for the same reason it won't run (correctly) on Win95. You need DirectX 8.1 or higher, and you cannot install that on either Win95 or Win NT.

Don't know if this will work with NT since I never used it, I did not bother to learn much about it.

However with win 95:
Windows 95: The game should run on windows 95 with DirectX ver8.0a, however it's recommended you set your music to OFF using the HOI Settings file. You can always play the mp3s with Winamp in the background anyway, so this shouldn't be too big a loss.

Interesting quote. Never tried it on my system, as I have upgraded it to directX 8.1 after EU2 got into version 1.04. At that time, the minimum requirement also went up from directX 8.0 to 8.1

At first I thought that it was just because 8.1 had been released, and that it would not matter that much. Boy, was I wrong. EU2 1.04 on top of DirectX 8.0 was a disaster, an endless stream of CtD's. And I had the music turned off. I always play music on a separate sound system.

The CtD's more or less vanished (except the ones confirmed as genuine bugs) as soon as I upgraded to directX 8.1

Given that HoI uses the same graphics library as EU2 (evidence of that can be found in the fact that both games exhibit the same directX related quirks), I expect HoI to behave similary, and that it will not run problem free on top of DirextX 8.0

Never tried it myself. ;)
