So in a previous patch I tested playing as Arthur Dayne, so that I could see where the events led.
I did this by using the engine to make him Lord Commander of the KG and then watching as the IT lost Robert's Rebellion.
The last time I tried this, I managed to kill everyone in the Tower of Joy and then found myself landed in Pentos (I think) with a Targ child in my care.
Having tried it again, I noticed that Arthur Dayne does not get landed - but the Kingsguard kind of collapses and all of the old members just go and hide in various parts of the world. In the most recent patch, after the TOJ events, I went to Pentos, became unlanded and was made to play Barristan Selmy who had been landed with Harvest Hall.
*Seems like Robert tries to kick out all of the KG members as soon as he takes over, which can also cancel some of the TOJ events.
Is this all WAD?
If I remember past patches correctly, the way it used to work made more sense, as in Arthur Dayne taking care of the last Targ in exile. Currently, that doesn't really happen.
