  • The Showdown Effect
The United States of America collapsed following the assassination of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The death of the President in February of 1933 caused a domino effect; the economy of the nation continued it's steep decline, the depression could not be stopped by Roosevelt's successor; John Nance Garner. Unrest began first in the Southern States, but slowly spread northward. At first, the unrest was just peaceful protests. That all changed on June 14th, 1933, when President Garner was shot and killed in Texas.
Riots began against the United States government, civilians began clashing with government troops. Martial Law was than declared all along the East Coast as well as Texas. Governor Ferguson of Texas announced full sovereignty of the State of Texas, officially creating "The Second Republic of Texas." President Garner's successor, President Byrns stated this was an act of treason against the United States, he gave the go ahead for a military invasion of Texas; divisions in the south began revolting against the US government troops, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and New Mexico soon declared independence, and federated with Texas, forming the "New America Union"

The NAU Flag

The NAU quickly began mobilization of it's armed forces. Mass conscription began after Chairman Ferguson of the NAU declared the United States was no more and soon launched a preemptive attack on US Forces in several southern states that had not left the USA. President Byrns gave a radio address, announcing the beginning of the Second American Civil War. California; after seeing the chaos in the eastern states, declared independence and brought Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii with it, forming the "Commonwealth of America". The German Reich gave its support and formally recognized the Commonwealth, claiming it to be the rightful government of America. France soon put their support behind the Byrns Government. Meanwhile Japan recognized the NAU as the official government of America. Washington D.C. soon became the center of attention though, as a communist revolutionary force of 500 000, supported by volunteer soldiers from the Soviet Union, seized the capital and executed President Byrns. Earl Browder quickly took over office. On January 3rd, 1934, Browder declared the dissolving of the United States of America, and proclaimed "The American Socialist Republic" in it's place. Government forces are forced into the midwest, with Browder's Communists seizing New England and much of the East Coast. The USA is formally dissolved by an emergency congress and supreme court decision, it is replaced with the American Provisional Government, the provisional government has no acting President.
The former United States has collapsed.

------------
This will be a Canada AAR
That was just a little prologue about the state the USA (or former USA) is in.
Difficulty: Normal/Normal

Main things in this AAR will be:
A Communist UK, with Empire dissolved.
An independent and Japanese allied India
United States will be far different (Now with 100% less States!)
and a very different leader of the Soviet Union
while the whole thing is very implausible, the history of the whole thing is just to set up
the situation to play as Canada in, so please enjoy the impossible xD
Next update focuses on the USSR's new head of state.

Good luck Canada.

The New USSR

The current General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union had taken the position from his number one rival in 1928. He had his rival exiled to the Kazakh SSR shortly afterwards. His rival escaped to Mexico and soon became an advocate against the new Trotskyist Soviet Union. By 1933, Leon Trotsky had secured his position as head of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Trotsky had defeated all rivals, even the so called "Man of Steel" himself: Joseph Stalin.

The America issue troubled Trotsky, while he supported Browder with supplies and a large amount of "volunteers", he was also worried about how the other Great Powers would react. Germany, under the chancellorship of Adolf Hitler was not happy. Hitler openly stated his support for the Commonwealth, and as Hitler saw it the ASR was just a mere Soviet puppet, hoping to make the USSR's sphere of influence larger and more global.

Another issue facing Trotsky was the issue of industrialization. Trotsky's decision came in a series of 5 year plans, these would aggressively push the economic and industrial revival of the USSR. These plans strained the nation to it's limits, but after the deaths of approximately 10 million people and the massive agricultural collectivization process, the USSR once more stood among the most powerful nations on earth.

You do realise that Stalin took the idea of forced industrialisation from Trotsky not the other way round, right?

Anyway, this implossibly amusing AAR has my attention. Any AAR with Trotsky leading the Soviet Union does. :D

"I have failed you, but I will return to these Isles."
-King George V after the Revolution

The British economy was in shambles by 1934. Having lost their largest trading partner almost overnight, the unemployment began to rise rapidly. By March, the unemployment had reached 30%. Riots broke out all across the Empire. India independence movements began organizing large scale protests against the British government.

Japan began taking advantage of the situation in India, they quickly began arming rebels and encouraging independence movements. The British government attempted to stop the unrest by giving India a limited independence. The puppet government lasted a mere 3 weeks before being toppled by guerrilla forces. The Indian Republic was proclaimed on August 3rd 1934.

The flag of the Indian Republic

Meanwhile on the homefront, unrest and rioting had reached critical levels. The British government declared an eight o'clock curfew but it was no use, very few people followed the curfew, and protesters began lighting government buildings on fire. The situation was becoming very reminiscent of what had just happened in America. Than on August 16th, 1934 a communist popular uprising occurred in London. The parliament building was seized, along with most of London. The royal family quickly fled to Canada. Much of the Empire began declaring independence with little to no resistance from the British Army. The revolution quickly spread throughout the UK and into Ireland.

By the end of 1934, the communists were in control of the entire British Isles, including Ireland. The communist government in London proclaimed the founding of the English People's Republic. The Soviet Union, Mongolia and American Socialists were the only three nations to recognize the country. France, fearing a similar fate, adopted an isolationist policy. Canada, New Zealand, and Australia signed a mutual military pact called the "Fredericton Pact".

-------
I couldn't think of a good way for the UK to have gone commie, so this is the best I could think of:
unemployment + riots + India problems = Socialist Revolution xD
Next update will focus on the American Civil War.
