Good afternoon, lovely denizens of the forum!

With PDXCON approaching, the forum staff decided to step out of the shadows briefly and will be shooting a prerecorded panel. Rather than just share stories betwixt ourselves about fighting in the Porn Wars™, we wanted to reach out to all of you and see if there were any burning questions that we could answer for you!

Questions can be submitted before May 6th be replying this thread below and must follow the following rules:
  • Conform to all forum rules
  • Nothing about the business-side of paradox (the moderators rarely know any more than you)
  • Nothing about specifics (e.g. "Why was [user X] banned?", "Why was [thread Y] closed?", "What are the specifics of the moderation system?")
  • No questions about the functionality/layout of the forum proper (the moderators rarely know any more than you)
  • Questions, for those wondering, are concise phrases that end with a "?" (i.e. this is not a place to share suggestions or experiences)
The questions submitted here will be collected and those we feel we have enough to talk about might get asked in the panel featuring a number of folks you'll recognize from around the community or even your DMs, depending on your history on the forum.

Our panel includes...

Moderating the Moderator discussion:
Panelists:
Behave all you lovelies, and see you at PDXCON. ;)

How is it like being a moderator on PDX forums?

How do you feel about the constant Victoria 3 spam?
Do you find any game-community to be harder to moderate than the other (EU4 vs. HoI4 for example)?
What role do the forum moderators play in the growth of Paradox community? Is there anything specific that you do to bring in / keep the players engaged?
How many hours do you dedicate per day to moderating the forum?
How much would you say you've learned about the PDS games just from reading the forum?
What is your favourite PDS game?
Do you have enough energy and patience to do any hobby-reading in your own free time? Because I imagine you do a lot of reading on this forum as is.
Was there ever a moment when you read something that someone posted here and you Alt - F4ed the browser?

Also, looking forward to this. As a passionate community builder myself, I am interested in how the professional approach the day to day moderating of a forum.
Many thanks.

Some really great questions here, thanks!

What is the difference between "Moderator", "Community Ambassador", "Community developer" etc.? Maybe you could give a short overview over the roles on the forum, you have a pink background, others have green, some have none but their posts have a brighter background. I joined the Paradox forums with the acquisition of triumph studios a few years ago, so coming from a rather small message board, I still am often lost understanding what roles there even are and what they mean.

Sounds like a good idea, thank you! :)

An expansion to the above question, if you please.
Are there more than those titles mentioned above that deal with this forum's users?
Are all Moderators volunteers or employees of PDS? because I see different levels of Moderator labels as well. Are the "Community ..." employees of the different studios, then?

and my own...
Does your role also include moderating other websites for the same games - on reddit/steam/discord/etc ?
What tips and tricks do you guys employ to maintain that zen when answering "problematic" posts?

Other than just being good forum members ourselves, are there things we can do to help the moderators?
