Since it seems like the Dance of Dragons game is slowing down (or maybe dead) and some people expressed their interest to me about making a game, I present this thread.

I am not decisively committed to any certain time or place within the universe so I will see what most people are interested in out of these four choices:

I. Regional Game- we pick houses/people in a certain region (ex. the Iron Islands) most likely before the Conquest and play around with it.
II. Book Timeframe- we pick a scenario from the books/show
III. Pre-Conquest- we pick a timeframe from before Aegon's Conquest
IV. Post-Conquest- we pick a timeframe post-Conquest but pre-books

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

IRC for now is #ASOIAF

To me the most interesting game would take place during the books timeframe.

Either 1 or 4, with the condition that, for number 4, it be after the extinction of dragons (otherwise you just have OP Targs)

Hi. I'm sorry I sort of abandoned the Dance of Dragons game a little while back; I was really busy and just sort of lost interest. Out of the choices listed above, I think number 4 is the best.

ASOIAF games seem to struggle here. I think it's because the source material, though it deals with armies and Kingdoms, is quite personal. On the grand strategic map the Imp, Littlefinger or Varys are not imposing figures.

With that in mind, I would propose a variety of 1, where we are all competing for influence in the court at King's Landing. An immediately post-conquest setting would be fun, but any start date where the country is not actively in civil war would work. The early days of King Robert would allow for people to use book characters, which could be fun.

I find that to be a horrible idea in general, using book characters that is. it only results in people complaining, getting mad and raging at each other, about how other characters would act if they dont like it, or how other players are breaking the character or not doing it the way they would like to see the character act. Yet oddly enough, they never get those feelings about themselves and the character they are playing :/

I agree with Sneaky. think it will work best if some of the setting is familiar but the characters are mostly our own, personality-wise. That's why post-invasion Westeros is going to be the best, I think.

There is a Robert's Rebellion game on eregime that operates similarly to the ASOIAF games we've had here, except the battle system is more detailed. The Lord Paramounts have been taken but most of the second-tier lords and other interesting characters (like Jaime or Varys) are open.

Probably not gonna play so don't take my advice too seriously. First I agree with what sneaky said completely, that's why I don't do games based off books as people would get butthurt, technical term, if they see a character not done a certain way. Very similar to when you'd play a game set in a historical setting and there's that one guy who goes "the ottomans would never realistically do that" or some other judgmental remark that seems to forget this is a game.

While I'd probably play a pre conquest book set in a region (such as during the Andal invasion or just after) doing a post conquest works too. People will be relatively familiar with the world as it is talked about a lot in books and the show.

More importantly how do you plan to do the game? Is it more nation based or character based? You could hybridize but it'd be easier to just not as that means you'd need to make the stats either somewhere in between, make two separate mechanics, or as I've often seen the nation mechanics are polished and the character mechanics are unfinished.

I'm not doing it anymore. However, someone else is running one on the site I described in the post before and it has been successful so far.

If I have to vote, option 4 seems like the most interesting.
Westeros will not survive to players owning valyrian dragons.

Number 1 sounds like the best, especially in the Vale. Followed by number 4.
