Hey guys. Is it possible to assign a commander to an army? Or is it automatic? I ask as my main force, made up of about 7 levy's has had No Leader as their commander for 2 years. Each levy has a commander, but the army as a whole is leaderless. Anyone else have this problem?

I believe it's a bug, you can fix it by splitting into a new army and moving all the units over.

You can't choose a leader manually though, presumably to simulate the power your vassals hold over you. Not sure exactly how it works, I assume it's based on who has the strongest presence in the army, i.e. how many levies/retinues from their provinces.

Sounds good. Thanks! It makes sense you can't choose a leader, but sure is annoying when no one steps up to take the commander role. Especially when the enemy army is marching your way.

It is a bug. If you mobilise a levy (or worse your liege does it) your character becomes the commander, if in you build your first army after that it has no commander.

Also, as far as who gets selected to be the commanders, it seems to follow logic like this:

Title > Military Skill

So, if your clan leader has regiments in an army, he commands. If he's not there, someone with Daimyo rank will. If there are none of those, a Kokujin will.

Then, out of the pool of highest ranked characters, the one with the highest military skill leads.
