So, the beta where you could put AT guns in buildings is over, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next patch that will add that back in.

But, hopefully not as limited.

No, I don't want Pak40's/17pounders in buildings, but I did notice a lot of smaller stuff was missing.

The IG-18, LG-40 and LG-42 should all be able to fit into those buildings, being smaller and lighter than 50mm guns.

I'd rather see a downsize to which guns can be placed in a building. But more importantly there needs to be a mechanic that limits their ability to turn on a dime when inside and teleport in/out like infantry. Otherwise we're better off without it.

Downsize to 47mm, sure, but these guns are all still a LOT lighter than the current 57mm and 50mm guns that fit in buildings.

As for turning, just reduce targeting speeds by a few seconds, simple fix.

Madmat's said in a few different forums that the LG40 & 42 were intentionally excluded from the patch as they are indirect fire weapons and would have to "fire through the roof". Which is bizarre, because they don't have the indirect fire ability that artillery has in game, but there you go.

I wonder how long it actually would have taken to set one of these up in a building. Any idea?

It'd probably take an AT gun a full minute to get set up, through doorways, over rubble, (stairs? lol) etc -- just a wild guess. Infantry, probably 10 seconds if we're gonna bother being realistic.

It would make sense to exclude them because they are recoilless rifles, though, which are famously dangerous to fire in enclosed spaces.

Would take a hell of lot longer than a minute to setup a Pak 36 or a QF 2 pdr inside a building.

The Pak 36 for example, is 1.6 ish meters (5.5 ft) wide, with a combat weight(sans transport mode ...) of 327 ish kg (720 ish lbs).
Hard to imagine while under fire or under the confusion of a meeting engagement, rolling up to any old house, somehow shoehorn the thing through the doorframe ,then setup for combat- this in a minute or less.

One big factor this game mechanic overlooks is basements/root cellars. These weapons systems produce a large amount of force with their recoil...Brings to mind a scene from the movie "1941".

Since a kubel can breench a 100-years-old tree in 4s, and a leaf also will stop kingtiger 4s. I don't think any realism is needed for this game...

As is the panzerfaust. Nor would firing a panzerschreck or a puppchen indoors be a great idea, but they can/will be able to. I suppose they had to draw the line somewhere though.

Not to mention the presence of the Luftwaffe or railroad batteries. This game takes some liberties with history for the sake of gameplay.

Basically, I think the reason is Eugen doesn't want HE shooting weapons in buildings, which would make cities way too defensible.

This is probably the only real explanation.

I can deal with map quirks... That's life in a video game I guess. Building teleportation is a while 'nother ballgame though, why not more similar to hedgerow entry/exit?

The way infantry teleport around buildings, I fully expect to run into a Brundlefly Platoon one of these days.
