I have EU2 1.08. I installed the latest beta patch (btw I really appreciate the time and effort of making such patches). I unzipped the file and manually (in Windows Explorer) moved over the beta patch files into the corresponding EU2 folder. I overwrote. I think I did this correctly (but maybe not).

I see some changes in the game, like new flags and straits. So its in there. However, I have a problem.

Whenever some small minor breaks off of an existing country, the name seems to be missing. I have many little countries named UNKNOWN STRING WANTED. Besides looking funny it makes it hard to tell who is who and makes it impossible to release vassels. Also, perhaps related, whenever I lose a merchant, I "have Aragon merchants left" or some other country name instead of a number.

Is this normal with the beta (which I could understand)? Or is there a particular file I messed up?

Thanks anyone who answers!

Sounds lik esome files got messed up during install.
That is why it is best to just extract the patch directly into the EU2 folder.

I would wipe the game from the system then do a fresh install, 1.08 patch and then latest beta.

Your save is prob. fubar though. :(

My guess is you extracted the beta without preserving the directory structure, so you got the newer eu2.exe in the right place but none of the data files. If the base EU2 dir has files like text.csv and province.csv in it, that was the problem. But do follow Castellon's advice to get a clean installation.

No problem, all part of the service. :)
