Ok - I think I'm in the right forum (FAQ) since I have a question - I appologize if this has already been answered somewhere but I didn't find it (you try searching for "attrition" - lots of posts).

Anyway, I've been playin the game for couple of weeks and it's occurred to me that I have no idea what the attrition level represents.

I know what causes attrition. I know that attrition is the monthly loss of men/ships.

BUT I'm not sure if the little number (say 15) means I lose 15 men per month (that doesn't seem right) or does it mean I lose 15% of my army/navy per month??? Or does it mean something else altogether??

Another thing - after having fallen victim to the dreaded Dutch Revolution - does the nationalism factor decrease after the revolts are put down (over time), would they decrease after the nation is formed and is later conquered?

How the heck do I stop it?

Yes, this is the right forum =)

Attrition
It's a % number. You can read mor about what affects attrition in my FAQ.

The Dutch
are a special case, for quite a long while the Dutch provinces get an ultra high revolt %. If they are suppressed long enough it goes away, but that is usually not worth it. Just let them breake away instead.
Normal 3% nationalism decreases by 1% ever 10 years after you have taken the province in a peace agreement.

a question i have about attrition is does it matter if the army is moving or not? for example i send out a army out exploring and i get deep into unkown territory then winter sets in, would it be best to let him sit there and wait for spring of is the attrition the same regardless if he is moving or not?

If a unit is standing still in a province and that province can support them, then there's no attrition.

But that hardly ever is the case in farwat unknown territory with winter conditions.

But the interesting question is - if the province supply can't support the unit, does it then matter whether the unit is moving at the end of the month or not?
I mean, there is always the 1% "movement attrition" when moving at the end of the month, even if the province can support the unit. Does this 1% add to the "normal" attrition rate when the province can't supply the unit?
