i dunno about cable modems man, but if its any type of router, it will be a problem. what u gotta do is disable all firewalls (software and internal), then open the necesarry ports. the easiest thing to do is go to ur modem settings and enable DMZ, which will open up everything. if you google ur modem model you will find a manual for it, it will tell ya what to do. alternatively u can go to www.hamachi.cc and use that for ur games.

btw we should have a game sometime

I've just switched to OPTUS dsl. I run a router and I could play straight away. So in short it is possible and no you haven't been screwed by going to OPTUS. It is most likely a firewall setting or something in your particular router that is blocking you. If you can't find anything helpful on the net, call your ISP tech support for help.

Has any aussie managed to play a mutliplayer game who has Optus cable. If so can you tell me if you had to make any settings change to the braodband modem?

I used to have Optus cable - played with no issues, or need to change settings. I played with just the standard modem.

If you're being blocked, I'd suggest looking into any routers, firewalls, or security software you have running.

I just realised that i have been sharing my connection with a flat mate through a Dlink router and so that will be causing the problem. Should have seen that to start with, i'm such idiot.
