Bit dissapointed we couldnt get a game going tonight appears Joel and Jh have succeded in dividing the group. Seems meaningless to play 3 and 4 player games when 6 or 7 would be better. Anyway hope we can resolve something that suits everyone.

Major, jh and I have not decided on a whim to 'split' the group. That choice was made by others who persistently used exploits, and broke agreed house rules. My choice is to longer play with those people.

I am always open to playing a larger game, providing I can depend on people playing for funs sake, rather than playing using whatever tactics they can, in order to win.

No hard feelings here at all I should add. I just have come to realise that what I want from this game, and what others want, is not always the same thing. Good luck with your game, hope it goes well.

Looking forward to tommorrow nights session which should bring about the much heralded Operation Barbarossa.

Germany now controls all of the 'stock standard' nations, and in mainland Europe, only Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland are still neutral, whilst Norway, Italy, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria are all willing members of the Axis. All other mainland European nations are annexed.

The Soviet Union has allied with Finland, and has constructed truly epic fortifications across close to the entirity of its lands from Archangelsk to Stalingrad, and all the way west. They will need them. Intelligence officers in Germany wonder how many IC's have been diverted into these projects that could have been used to field even more dangerous offensive tank armies.

The Allies have in turn knocked out the Italians from East Africa, and then latterly, all of North Africa. Recent probes captured Crete, Sardinia and Corsica. At this stage Germany intervened with small forces to steady the hapless Italian AI, and its air in particular has caused heavy losses for Commonwealth land, air, and sea units. Further advances against Mainland Europe, rather than the peripheries will meet with Iron German resistance instead of incompetant AI led Italians.

A couple of points re CORE to point out. I've noticed with increasing regularity that certain events are firing at un-historical dates. Eg, the pre-invasion events of Yugoslavia happened in 39, Occupation of the rhineland in 39 (no big deal here), and we have missed out altogether on a number of the Romanian oil to Germany events, and Soviet-German economic pact events.

The game continues, now spring of 1942.

Firstly, a couple of CORE points: The UK manpower events didn't fire correctly, and when jh mentioned his manpower gains were terrible, I didn't realise how terrible until he clarified he was gaining 1 per month. We edited this in, but having neither of the 2 UK manpower events on war occour has hurt the UK immensely even with later editing to compensate for this.

Also, whilst the Japanese have DOW'd the USA, both nations refuse to be drawn into the greater war and join the Axis and Allies respectively. I DOW'd USA to fix this part, but Japan will likewise need to be edited into the war. I'm yet to see Japan refuse more than 10 requests to join the Axis at this stage of the game.

Now, onto the actual game itself...

The UK has built up from it's positions in North Africa, and aside from its possessions in Sicily, Sardinia, Crete, etc, it invaded the remaining Greek islands, and was poised to move into Greece proper. German reinforcements, whilst small, succeeded in pushing the Brits back into the sea, with no elite UK forces around to topple the Guns of Navarone, and save the isolated divisions.

In the naval war, the UK has largely dealt with the U-boat menance, mainly through the use of naval bombers. American entry into the Allies in the last couple of months will only strengthen the Allied position.

In the East, German forces drove ever deeper into the Soviet Union, instigating a rule of harshness and terror as they advanced. After several large battles in the Gomel-Kursk-Tula regions, the Soviet lines in the centre were broken, and the Axis forces able to push onwards. Around 40 divisions were pocketed in the early battles, and a further 20 or so were annihilated at Smolensk.

Further german advances in late 1941 saw a break through in the Voronezh region, which in turn led to a Soviet withdrawel in the south. Smaller forces were pocketed, and the front settled down somewhat. Recent battles in the Crimea, and Maikop regions have seen the Axis drive the Red Army back to the mountains, and then crucially, German armour succeeded in isolating Stalingrad.

Over the winter, Soviet Forces which started at 54 divisions in this one pocket were reduced through attrition to around 44. At games end, Axis forces were pushing in, close to annihilating every one of these units that has been out of supply despite the numerous red army attempts to relieve them. And so, Stalingrad appears to be the battle that decides the war, however this time the Soviets will be the ones to taste defeat.

Currently, the front line runs from Leningrad to Moscow, past Lipetsk, Saratov, and down to Maikop. The second spring and summer will surely decide the winner in what has been an epic contest of battle after battle of massed tank and infantry armies. Only in the air has the Luftwaffe been largely unchallenged, with the large but antiquated Soviet airforce suffering massive losses on a regular basis.

Current game is in hibernation with Nolan unable to play.

JH and I have just finished up a 2 player one - an interesting game as Japan v USA for a nice change. (Need I add a glorious victory to Japan, who accepted the Allies surrender just before elite Japanese Marines invaded the home town of the enemy (jh), Perth). :)

I interested to see out of the usual suspects who would be up for a group game sometime? Nothing definate, just seems everyone has gone into hiding and I'm curious to see what numbers we can get for a (hopefully) large game.

game

Count me in....I know mike and munster would be interested as well. It appears though our Arab friend has deserted us so our screens will be a lot clearer :). That makes 5 with you and JH....if we could get someone else a 6 player game would be good. Lets us know a suitable time for you and JH.
