My first post on this forum will be an AAr.
I have seen lots of people from Holland but no Dutch Aar, this made me decide I would do the honor of making the first one.

Please feel free to make suggestions etc...

Queen Wilhelmina awakes with sweet drops on her forehead and a terrible feeling of fear and frustration.
She quickly realizes she is safely in bed
Just to make sure she gently slides the curtain away from the window and looks into the snow covered palace garden.
Everything is peaceful and when she looks to the sky its blue everywhere.

She cant see the small black figures hanging under tiny grey clouds growing bigger every minute neither does she hear the terrible sounds of shells exploding, civilians screaming or screams of death of men dying.

She shiffers as she realize it was a dream, a dream yes but what a realistic one.
Her imagination even managed to put parachutes in her dream, something she didn’t even knew exist until last week when she saw the secret reports.

She sits down on the bedside and starts thinking:

As a young girl she learned about the glorious world power the Netherlands once was.
Only a few centuries ago the Dutch ships ruled the waves and where feared everywhere, the army was small but modern and could be extended by hiring forces as needed.
The economy was rich and with new sawmills in the Zaanstreek to industrialize the wood industry Holland lay far ahead in the shipbuilding production.
Overall industry was modern and self-supporting
They owned a few of the best colonies all over the world which gave them even greater wealth.

Look at the country now she thought, nothing much more than a shadow of the big proud Lion it once was.
And if that was the only problem the country had she would have been ok with it, it was something she could handle.
After all she did pull the country through the dark years of the suppression.

No her fears lay somewhere else, there where others, predators, bloodthirsty animals, that where rising out of the dark ashes of Europe.
And they where after the Lion looking for ways to kill it.

She smashed her fist on the bed and shouted: "The Lion will awake!!"

Yes, my friend, the Dutch win rule victorious! Liberal ideas for all... We love Amsterdam.

I had this Aar all worked out till end 1939 but somehow things get screwed up by than.
This is mainly the fault of the poor AI that doesnt take advantage of the weak western front.
Imagine Holland occupying Wilhelmshaven,Dortmund and Munster and defending it with about 18 divisions (11 '39 inf ,5 medium tanks and 3 hq's)

You might think France would be smart enough to take advantage of the fact the bulk of the german army is rolling up the Polish army and most of the rest of the army is dealing with that small little country that invaded three of their home provinces.

Noo the France army instead thinks they should stay in their forts and wait untill the german army can redirect their forces from Poland roll up those damn dutchies and reorganise in front of their army.
They have a far better shot if they battle against germany alone
This way the French soldiers have a bigger change of hitting the germans!

Meanwhile Englands best job so far is giving airsupport, dont get me started about their fleet activities....the english think the only reason they have those boats is to defende carriers in the Channel.

you should try military controll (in a realistic manner) to continue the story..

Leve Nederland!

So true, I intend to "cheat" a little bit with ranks and skills for my commanders.
I believe Holland only has one general based on Java and he is a panzer leader!

I forgot to mention, but I am playing Holland as well. I do not have problems with resources, I have plenty of them, but the manpower is so low. Did you join the Allies? I did, so I am planning to bring over some Canadian divisions to help my assault against Germany. As you did, I will wait till Germany attacks Poland, then I start my invasion. I may take control of the French army as well. Some Belgian divisions would be useful as well. I try this game without cheats so I'll keep my crappy generals.

An interesting thing, when I have an infantry divison ready it alwalys gets the "Ie Java Divisie", so I have to rename them manualy.

Yup I did join the allies, mainly because I needed the blueprints for developing my medium tanks.
You will have a hard time getting the belgians on your side, Germany wont attack Belgium or France untill they have finished you off.
Manpower isnt big of a problem (yet) mainly because i cant get that far.
I am redoing my whole campaign and will take control of the french army when germany attacks Poland.
Hopefully my first update to this aar will come at the end of this week.

Oh and yes I know its cheating, but giving Holland a few generals only seems far, I mean one Genaral with skill 2?

Havent got the problem with the names, have you installed latest patch?

Update:

02 Januari 1936 till 01-0636

Diplomatic:

We currently have a chief of army that believes in static defence, artillery and fortified infantry.
Plans are made to look for a replacement
Same goes for Head of armaments and chief of staff, they have visions that dont go well with our future.

Diplomatic meetings are held and the decission is made to ally with the Uk and France.
War with Germany is something that cant be prevented and when that time comes we need strong allies.
Making them our allies also gives us many, much needed blueprints and tradedeals .

Army:

Holland will change his strategic ideas from heavy fortifications along with static defence and a small army to a rather big, modern army that has the ability to attack.
Focus will be on having medium tanks, basic anti tank, basic artilery and as much doctrines as possible.
The following units need to be ready at 01-01-39 at the latest:

-2 hq's
-6 medium tank div.
-12 inf div. preferrably 18
-6/8 garrison units
-6 at brigades
-6 art brigades
-2 armored car brigades
-2 aa brigades

Navy:

No valuable ic's will be spend on navy units, except for 2 extra convoy div.

08-06 After long diplomatic meetings with our allies we received blueprints for several important projects

10-06 Today Daf showed the army her version of the newly developped Tankette.
According to developers at Daf this is the first step to building a new light tank prototype.
The government decided not to order any of these new tankettes but instead wait for the newer prototypes

18-07 We received news of a civil war in Spain. After long debats the government decided not to intervene.

01-08 Negotations with France leaded to the buying of blueprints for early tank in exchange for 350 tons of supplies.
A spokesmen at Daf announced: "This will make our project a lot easier"

26-08 It seems our realations with France are getting better, today we received blueprints for a large amount of new projects

12-09 Uk sends new blueprints. Our Head of intelligence claims we have to many blueprints and not enough research teams.

11-10 Today Daf gave an impressive presentation of their new build early tank

07-11 Wilhelmina opened a new factory in Amsterdam.

12-11 Head of Government mr. Clijn opened a new factory in Rotterdam

16-11 Shell finishes research on improved machine tools

22-11 "Today we see a new Holland rising up" these where the words of a reporter present at the Great military parade which was held in Amsterdam today.
The new formed infantry division marched by in endless colons, and the audience was stunned to see a new vehicle called "tank"
Queen Wilhelmina stated:
"We have an army that is modern and ready for everything the world throws at us, gone are the days where the lion was hiding, today it is ready to attack and defend."

07-12 Another diplomatic deal was signed today in exchange for impr. machine tools and an amount of steel, the Uk gave us basic light tank prototype.

28-12-1936 17:21 Den Haag

Queen Wilhelmina sipped her first cup of tea of the day.
It was a long and exhausting day, the small fire that had burned in the government had changed in an inferno.
She had been fighting with almost every member of her government.
The stubbern old guards didnt have the same view and perspective on world events as she had.
While she wanted a modern, self supporting nation with a medium well equipped and modern army they wanted things to stay the same.
Hide in fortifications, static defence, artillery and indirect approach where terms she had been hearing all year.
All contra on what she believed, gladly with the help of mr Colijn (head of government) she was able to push through all her ideas.

But today the discussions where over, she was not even halfway to her objectives and she needed people that shared the same ideas.
She fired the following people and replaced them effectively on 01-01-37:

- Head of intelligence was fired and replaced for Kamebeek (research +5%)
-Chief of Navy changed to Karel Doorman who has an open sea approach
-Chief of staff changed to Coltof who thinks Morale, unit leadership and a modern army are keywords (org regain +20%)
-Chief of Army to van Voorst to Voorst. (same ideas but no better replacement available)

If you occupy the provinces bordering to the maginot line, the Frenshmen usually starts moving his troops. At least in both games I tried with 1.1

Good tip, I cant use it do because Belgium isnt in my alliance and occupying the german provinces will mean i have to overstretch my lines.

Right, I have spend the last two weeks testing and tweaking my operations once the war breaks out between Germany and Poland.
I now use the military control for France which gives me alot more options on the western front. (and how interesting!!)

Did you guys know it is possible in ho2 the russians turn down the ribbentrop pact?
