I've been mucking aorund with Romania, Hugary and Bulgaria in Arm 1.3 and theres kinda a problem. Germany rarely launches Barbarossa and the Bulgarians and Romanias rarely have a falling out so its hard to gian access to Turkey. Maybe I IC whore to much but each game seems to go the same way. USSR DoWs Germany in 1942 and your 30-40 odd divisions get chewed up on the eastern front.
Once as Romania I manaed to prolong the eastern front untill 44 or so but I think that was an older version of HoI2. Its so bad as Hungary I helped Germany defeat the French in 1940 as the fighting was still raging in August and my single HQ unit +men punched through the Allied lines near Dunkirk.

Similar deal as Romania but you have more IC and a get out of the Axis cause if you choose to fight the Soviets in 1940. What usually happens is you fight them, the Bulgarian thing fires and you end up out of the Axis at peace with the USSR and Germany gets ground up between the French and Soviets. Tempted to load a game as Germany 36 and use various cheat codes for more men (say 1000) and 10% more IC + resources and then switch to XYZ team. I want to build a smallish Balken empire, crush Turkey and help Germany fire the BP as I've only managed todefeat the Soviets as Italy as a non German Axis member. Thoughts?

I have noticed this too when I play a Balkan nation Germany never seems to be able to pull off a good Barbarossa. But that was nothing compared to this one game: I was Hungary. I was playing as an Axis partner, but I tried to take advantage of the wars Germany caused. I swiped some parts of East Poland and a good chunk of Yugoslavia. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take Sarajevo before the Italians and the port I captured went to Italy because they had cores there.

When Yugoslavia was annexed by Germany, the parts owned by Germany were split in the middle by me. And Germany had a 50 unit doomstack in the part that wasn't connected to the rest of Germany. It just sat there for months. Eventually I realized it was my land-grabbing that was causing the AI to have a fit, and I gave them one of my provinces so it wouldn't be split up. Germany finally moved its doom stack. Bizarre.

I had the exact same problem. Random German province, 75 division doomstack. I used acceptall and took the province off them to see what happened and they moved. As Romania Bulgaria never DoW's be any more when I tell them to go swim in the black sea when they demand constant. Unless I'm at war with the USSR and odd things happen.

Any advice on taking Moscow? I'm playing as Romania and have liberated Kazakstan and the central Asian republics but the Soviets have holed up with 42 divisions in Moscow.

Encircle Moscow, use bombers to do a logistics strike to get them down to 0% infrastructure (you might need to do an installation strike too to kill their AA guns if you're taking casualties from the bombing, with low infrastructure they'll take forever to climb back up), then start interdiction to start chipping at their org. With no infrastructure, their ESE will go to hell and they won't be able to regain it. Then throw 24-unit stacks at them from all sides until they finally lose the battle and disband. Meanwhile use your mobile units to run around taking the rest of the USSR because surrounding Moscow will put the rest of the country out of supply.

Or at least that'd be what I'd say to do if you were Germany who can afford a ton of bombers and enough infantry to do 24 unit strikes from all surrounding provinces, but Romania? You really can't do anything in that situation when they have a giant stack of units in terrain you have to take. Maybe use your espionage system to give them a lot of smear campaigns (if they've lost enough IC, it'll be relatively easy to use whatever espionage against them) and hope the dissent hurts the stats enough to take them down... but since you can only do that once every 2-4 weeks it probably won't work.

Germans got them eventually. Got similar stack problems in the middole east but I'm figuring it out. Allies have lost over 60 odd divisions.
