Does my badboy rating go up if, as Spain or Portugal, I happen upon a colony or trading post owned by a Catholic nation while the Treaty is in force, march into it and take it for my own?

From my observations as Spain in 1.07c and Huszics analysis of badboy figurse in 1.08, I don't think it does.

But should it? Whatever the Pope thinks, the merchants of the founding nation won't be pleased.

Point to ponder for 1.09 and/or EU2.

Also, what impact does this have on diplomatic relations with the founding mation? If knocking a merchant out of a CoT gives -5 (not in manual - thanks to Huszics again), surely taking a colony or a TP should have some impact?

Here's another question.

If I am in a war with an ally and the ally takes a province and I claim the province for the ally as part of the peace settlement (perhaps because I am too dumb to realise it was the ally, not I, who took the province) - is it I or my ally who takes the badboy hit?

Havn't looked into BB but taking a TP as Portugal a little while ago led to 0 relations change and a temp CB for France on me (CB btw lowers relation over time).

Since we are talking about the treaty of Tor... (whatever - remember we Americans are ignorant when it comes to any kind of history, inclduing our own), how does this actually work. Assume I play England and have spend a lot of Ducats building up a colony in the New WOrld. Does Spain just have to send in a measly infantry unit and automatically get my colony? Even if I have troops stationed there? How about if I have built fortifications? Does Spain actually have to assault or beseige it, or do they automatically get it?

Humm, as I NEVER take help from my allies in offensive wars that situation never arises. Thus I actually don't know ...

Guess, I will have to try it out =).

I suggest you take a peak a my FAQ and come back and ask again if anything remains unclear =)

What Huszics said. But basically they just don't have to declare war. IF there are troops or a fort there, they still have to get past those. Anyway, u shouldn't be catholic as England anyway and the Treaty doesn't go for Protestants.

Short lesson for ignorant Americans: Treaty of Tordesillas is the arbitration decision made by Pope wich made a border between portuguese and spanish colonies in the New World. Since then, Spain and Portugal didn't interfere in eachothers colonieal interests.:)

Just becourse I like to knitpick =)

The treaty is actually a 1494 revision between POR and SPA of what the pope stated in 1493 that moved the line a far bit. The Pope didn't acknoledged this treaty until 1506 (??) or something
