Streets of Bucuresti were empty and covered with snow and on main square few soldiers were singing an old song about Carphatian warrior. Romanian people rested after night of celebration, although they had so little to celebrate

“Past year was very difficult for Romanian people, they suffered effects of great economic crisis. Our citizens had only one wish: To have better lives, higher wages for workers and cheaper supplies. It is our duty to provide them everything they need, but our industrial capacities are simply too small. To produce more we have to expand our industry no matter what is the cost. This will be our first mission, first brick in building our Balkan Empire.”

Just 10 hours after delivering his speech Gheorge Tatarescu and his assistants started to work on his plans. As he said Romanian industry was in poor shape and something had to be done. Mr. Tatarescu made desicion, based on his assistants advices, that country-wide industrialization is answer.
Beside industry developing, our security advisor said that it would be smart to start building some land fortification on our border with Soviets. One never knows what our comrad Stalin can do.

@Semi-Lobster: Thats why Beltsy and Chisnau are getting brand new land forts.

21.02.1936

Just after meeting with Chief of Staff and Army, Navy and Air commanders ended Chief of Army approached and started talking:
“Romanian industrial capacity is halved due to modernisation, therefore it is not possible to create any additional troops, and our research is on very low level. We are currently researching “Welded armour” with only 1,3 IC. But I think now is time to talk about army reorganisation.” Said Field Marshal Ion Sicihtiu.
“Reorganisation?” asked Tatarescu.
“Yes, our land army is big enough, but having 7 Armies is too much. I suggest that we merge 7. Armata into 2. Armata and 6. Armata into 3. Armata. Then we will have 5 armies that we can count on.”
“OK, do so and make sure that I get list with every single division in it as soon as you finish it.”

This day is filled with diplomacy events. First we received note from German foreign ministry and our embassy in Berlin about German reoccupation of Rhineland. It is first move of their new chancellor Adolf Hitler. He made a lot of promises and this seems just first step to fulfil them
Second note was from Soviet foreign ministry informing us that Turkey decided to cede province Kars to Soviet Union and from now on recognise it as valid part of Soviet Union.

28.05.1936

This was big day for our nation. Today our citizens decided their future and chose party for their future. Romanian Democratic Front and their coalition partners Romanian Communist Party were unable to gain enough votes and they lost. Big winner was Romanian National Party, great fans of Italian and German policies. This party strongly supports monarchy and is very much right aligned. New Romanian Prime Minister is Octavian Goga. On his inauguration he said that Romania must remain on same road as till now. Our country will continue with industrialisation and modernisation of our army.
Because there are no candidates for now, Mr. Goga will be foreign minister too, until able person is found.
With slightly more than 83% percent of population voted elections are valid. Here are election results:

Romanian National Party
77,36%
Romanian Communist Party
13,68%
Romanian Democratic Front
8,96%

Nice start....but do you really think it's wise to invest in Chisinau's and Beltsy's land forts?

Seems good to me! Defending against any initial Soviet aggression before Jerry get's going full steam ahead in Russia. Besides along with the river it makes a great place for defence.

Thats my thinking too. I recognise Soviets as my only enemies if I enter Axis and this is probably only way to stop them (if mustache guy failes :D ).
We'll see, I had some other HoI issues so I wasn't playing last couple days. I'll continue tomorow

Don't forget that the SU will get Lwow too when Poland gets partitioned. Unless you get it first, that is...;)

“Today we have received great news. Finally people in Spain have declared war against oppressors. Their fight will be heavy and long, but it is only way to create their own country, with real values instead of this bolshevik creation we have today. Our thoughts are with people of Nationalist Spain and their leader, General Franco.
Unfortunately, only German Reich recognised that Generalissimo needs help against numerous bolshevik brigades and they sent help. Italy decided to save their supplies assuring themselves that Franco needs no help. But what really hurts is how French and British government described people of Spain and their fight. They refereed to them as anarchist rabble!!! People who are fighting against the greatest of all evils are not rabble, they are heroes. Therefore we will arrange Romanian fascist brigades and send them to help General Franco in his fight. We heard that Soviets sent large quantities of supplies and weapon and that many communists are travelling to Spain. It is very possible that Soviets are searching for new ally, and we will assure they find noone when they come to Spain. We will assure that in Madrid they find only Franco”

Audience in Romanian National Theatre in Bucharest applauded. They were delighted and if someone asked them, they would enlist immediately in fascist brigades and go to Spain.
Great speeches were one of Octavian Goga secret weapons. He know exactly how to raise his audience and make them think just as he wanted.

As he promised on his inauguration day, Mr. Goga found new foreign minister. Man’s name is Nicolae Titulescu and he was Romanian ambassador for years. He was ambassador in Belgrade and Berlin, he has many connections and most important: he agrees with Goga’s policy. Titulescu immediately started with his work, offering Germany alliance proposition. With so many connections, this diplomacy move was free for us. Everyone hopes that this is just another step toward our goal: Balkan empire.

This is why I like Paradox games. The thought of seeing Titulescu embrace a german alliance, with the ultimate goal of a Balkan empire is not very often expressed.....at least, in real life:)

You know, the British and French think the Republicans are rabble, not the fascists :D

Ehm, sorry, me discovered Championship manager runs on my weak computer so slightly neglected HoI. But after failing my objective, to bring Austrian second league bottom team in Championship League semi finals, I gave up. :D
Update:

31.12.1936
“More than seven months, seven months and 3 days to be exact I am leader of this country. And Nicolae my friend, it is great job.” said Octavian Goga to his foreign minister. New Year party in great hall of Romanian national Theatre just started and everyone important in Romania was invited. Goga wanted to get as much aristocracy and rich industry owners on his side, and also to see how they would react when he tells them about next step in his Balkan Master mission.

During early thirties Goga worked as clerk and in endless office hours was often thinking about his country position in history and options it has in future. Developing his thoughts he came up with “great plan” to make Romania similar to United Kingdom. He wanted Romania to be greatest industrial power in south-eastern Europe. But it was only after meeting with Ion Antonescu, proud member of Romanian National Party, he realised that “great plan” will have to evolve. Eventually it did, after 6 months of work “great plan” evolved into even greater one. New plan which will provide Romania with place in history was oriented mainly on south and south-east border areas, Balkans and therefore it was named after it. On 7 May 1933 Goga finished his book, on first page below Romanian flag in stylised hand writing name of book was written. Two words for Romania and two words for Romanian leader: Balkan Master.

Balkan Master had five chapters:
Start or “great plan” chapter was about first actions after Goga rises to power and their effects. It contained industrialisation project, foreign policy road and internal policy plans.
Bulgaria chapter was about Goga plans including Bulgaria. In his plans Bulgaria was main target for Romanian army and as soon as Romania is ready war will be declared on Bulgaria and it will be annexed into Romania.
Poland chapter was smallest in entire book. In his thoughts, Goga claimed Lwow to be historically Romanian province, and this step was to regain this claim.
Yugoslavia chapter, about Yugoslavian eastern lands included occupation with help of Romanian allies.
Balkan Master was final chapter, about aims of Romanian foreign policy, effects of industry, theory of war and great Romanian state.

Beside his most loyal friends noone was aware of Goga’s Balkan Master plan. Now he was closing to end of chapter one and he wanted to see how people would react to second chapter, chapter that has blood on its pages.

01.01.1937
Even if it was first day of year, Goga neither wanted nor needed rest. He was expecting analyses of Romanian industry section and some notes about Romanian Army and employed military staff. Few minutes after nine hours his secretary handed him reports he expected. Mr. Goga smiled, industrial report was better than he expected and he decide that work must be continued.
Army report was all about state of army after reorganisation. He enjoyed while looking at numbers of soldiers imagining great military parades after Bulgarian mission and then after Lwow and then... But first, first we have to create alliance, or we are doomed to failure said Goga to his self.
“Elena, call Mr. Titulescu for me, immediately! Tell him to come here as soon as possible!” said Goga to his secretary. Another page will be realised, another step closer to his goal, to Romanian goal…

I like the way you are starting this one out - almost exactly my strategy when I played Romanina. Watch out for Bulgaria though - for some reason they gave me a tough time and I lost some much needed troops that caused me to miss out on some opertunities when Germany DOW on Yugoslavia. Looking for the next update.
