I got banned recently with, I suppose, an immediate decision, without any warning.
The only problem is that - unlike any other private correspondence (including a moderator which i discussed a few things with today) or replies to my posts - all notifications are coming through to my email address.
With regards to the ban.... or possibly a period when one is banned - that decision was not available because:
- as i was banned I couldn't log in back to the forum - i was signed in actually so i could see a red number on the envelope for conversation that there was something awaiting, but no email came through (unlike today, after the ban was lifted)
- as above, no email notification is being sent so one can't really ready anything about the reason or reasoning behind the decision and what caused such an offence on your side.

So if someone posts an unruly message and you decide to ban them while that person goes away from the computer - the only thing they get when they come back is a reddish banner that one can't log in due to a ban that is die to be lifted on a given date.

Would that be possible to allow notifications to come through...
and... if you want to test it on me, I am volunteering but at least let me know about it in advance this time?

EDIT:
Also in your Forum Sanction System it says:

"Commenting publicly on mod/admin action

Do not comment, question or argue with the actions or authority of the forum moderators in public. If you want to discuss a warning or policy do it over PM either to a mod or admin. If you need to contest a ban you can email: admin@paradoxinteractive.com"

You can't PM anyone if you are banned, and you don't get any warnings in advance because it seems that your automated system goes... let's call it "automated" to avoid using any slurrs, as it does frustrate people. Especially now when all companies seem to go... "automated".

The message basically says that you should have contacted the mod in question via PM instead of commenting on their actions in public.
Now that you (apparantly) decided to do so in public you received a (temporary) ban. You can appeal to that ban via the email address mentioned.

So, how it (most likely) went:
1. Someone (maybe you, maybe someone else) does something offensive
2. Mod does something about it
3. You decide to comment on said action in public and thus broke the rules
4. Mod bans you

How it should have been:
1. Someone (maybe you, maybe someone else) does something offensive
2. Mod does something about it
3. You contact mod via PM
4. The issue gets sorted out without any further ban (unless the PM involves offenses itself, of course ;) )

OR
1. Someone (maybe you, maybe someone else) does something offensive
2. Mod does something about it
3. Nothing

For clarification: You may answer to this message in public as it's no "mod action" in the sense of the rules (I didn't post as mod). Unless you want to discuss specifics about your ban and not just some rule clarifications. In that case, please contact the mod in question (even if it was me) or an admin via PM.

As for the technical issues with the ban (i.e. mail got apparantly only sent after the ban was lifted), maybe @TinyWiking can help here?

Just for clarification for others, as i just realised one thing that you keep using in your policies: when you say "mod" that only brings a mod on my mind, so an asset that changes game rules created by a game user for others - not a moderator
Could you passed that on someone who could do these changes - as i kept thinking about mods as mods and not moderators for quite sometime (and therefore kept laughing at lack of logic or clarity here). It doesn't take space, it doesn't require print out... and it would put an end to that jargon that a policy should be free of I suppose.

I've just searched for the term "mod" in the rules/CoC.

The only instance where the word "mod" is used is where indeed it refers to (game) modifications. In all other cases the word "moderator" is spelled out.
What text are you referring to?

Well - referring to this part of the Forum Sanction System

;)
I haven't scanned it all but that's what i was reading... and remembered the last thing - same as in my original post - it's in the part:
"Commenting publicly on mod/admin action

oh... it's even twice there :)

I was served a week ban on Monday, with only the ability to see there was a 'violation of rules.' While I was banned, I could not see what I had been banned for, and I got no responses to emails over the entire timeframe of the ban. Basically, I had no way to know what rule I had violated, why it merited a punishment like that, and no way to contact anyone about the punishment.

That is extremely unfair.

The administrators at Paradox owe it to the members of this forum to either be responsive to emails, or enable banned members to use the PM system while they are banned, if that is to be the only reliable way to communicate with administrators and/or moderators on the forum regarding said ban. Barring that, nobody should be banned for anything on here.
