I am interested in playing HOI2 online. I have, however, come across a few issues, which I hope someone may be able to resolve.

1) How long does one need to commit to a MP game? Is this set beforehand, and if one were to leave does the AI takeover, does the game crash, etc.?

2) The one time I did play HOI online (N.B. this was the first game), people immediately started declaring war on minors and all chaos insued (1936 scenario). Is this common?

3) I have heard that there are issues re: HOI2 DD and playing online. Could someone point me in the right direction as to where I can find more information on the topic and if there are any workarounds?

Thank you, and happy gaming!

1) Most sessions are 4-5 hours in length about 2 times a week for about maybe 4-5 months. If you drop the game continues but your country is idle the AI does not take over.

2) Some games have house rules about war dates. If you want to play close to historical you may want to find a group that has house rules that suit you. House rules and opinions differ widely on the forum.

3) Save games will not compress on host ups, the simply workaround is to email the save to all players then have them copy it manually into their save game folder. All this means is that it takes slightly longer to load up.

Hope you can find a game :)

The result is usually an immediate rehosting of the game. Nobody else is likely to crash, but the gameplay stops and everyone must load the save of where the game is at. This is a problem as the DD save download will not transfer properly.

Simple experience and general maturity on the part of the players usually cuts down on early wars. I prefer to avoid "You can't DoW before Danzig" house rules, as it lets players skimp on their military maintenance by knowing when the war's going to start.

Here's a link to some games that are recruiting or underway
