1) What is the difference between Local Area, ValkerieNet, and Internet?

(I know what a LAN is, but I want to make sure.) I clicked on Internet while connected to the internet and my computer froze.

2) I have an Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz processor, 560 MB RAM, and a 56k modem. Is that suffcient or must I have DSL?

Local area = LAN. You can play the game with computers in the same LAN. The advantage of LAN-gaming is the stabile and fast connection, plus the (in my experience anyway) more social gaming experience. The disadvntage is of course that people actually have to be in the same place.

MPing through the Valkyrienet is the standard. It is a sort of chat-program through which games can be arranged with people from all around the world (altough basically all CK games are pre-arranged either on the forum, IRC, school etc). There are "rooms" (for CK the obvious room is of course Crusaders -room) where people meet and set up games. Sometimes however V-Net is down, and sometimes rarely (actually never for CK) there are people who don't understand what a private game is...

MPing through the Internet-button requires you have to type the hosts IP address to the field (and if you are the host, obviously it means you have to give your IP to the other players (aka clients) through some means (ICQ, PM's etc). The Internet-method is basically used only when V-Net is down or when you have a private game that is set up in for example IRC.

Your computer certainly is good enough (unless it has a zillion background processes runnin :p), and I know EU2 can be played with a 56k modem if the speed is not too high. I haven't (AFAIK...) tested playing CK when one of the players is on modem. I have my doubts of its stability, but I sure would like to find out :)

For other issues relating MPing, please check the link in my sig.

Thanks for all of your answers. :) I've read the multiplayer etiquette guide for EU II, so I know about "Rule #1" and all that stuff. I would love it if you wanted to set up a test game, say just the two of us (or not, whatever) to test my connection. I'd like to find out as well since I wouldn't want my connection to crash someone's game. I'll let you suggest a time since my schedule is pretty open right now. (One of the few advantages of being unemployed. :p)

PS: Not this very moment, as it's 0200 where I am. :eek:o <-- (getting sleepy)

Edit: Oh, I forgot, I'm running 1.04, no (a), no Beta.

So you have the US-version? I think US 1.04 is compatible with the 1.04a over here. But I really suggest you install the beta too. MPers are generally the leading edge of testing and twisting, because we want to take whatever advantage the newest patch has :D

I have late shift tonight, so I'll be home about 12 hours from now. If it 2 AM over there now, then it is 2 PM, which might be troublesome for you again... But I am sure Byakhiam (who is awake 24/7 :p) can arrange a testing with you. That should *really* put a test on CK MPing, what with the other having a steam-engine computer and the other having a smoke-sign connection ;) :p :D
