First time player here...

I designed my first Morrigi dreadnought as a battle rider carrier, and after some trial and error, realized that I have to design and build the actual battle riders as well, which I did as Escort class.
After more trial and error, I figured out how to load them onto the carrier.

Here's the problem: In battle, I launch the battle riders, but they don't seem to do anything: they float, take a few hits, but they never fire at anything or fly anywhere with the rest of the fleet (non-accelerated mode). I've tried launching them from afar, and when right on top of the enemy, with the same results.

I noticed there was no Command section for the battle rider in the combat screen (all red, no green), but there is no option in the ship design screen for that, so I don't think that is the issue. They have enough energy and crew.

Ideas are welcome. Thank you.

Sound like a bug to me. I would first recommend trying a few thing. First off go to your steam and scroll down to sword of the stars 2 entry in game list. Right click it and click properties. Click the local files tab then click verify of game cache.

This may take a long time depending on your setup. If the problem still persist after verify of game cache then all I can do is suggest to go to kerberos sword of the stars 2's technical issue subforum.

To be clear, Escort BRs are for circling around your friendly ships and aren't to be given enemy attack targets. If you give them friendly attack targets by ALT+LEFT CLICK they will be assigned to a specific ship to escort.

If you're looking for ATTACK BRs, I recommend Patrol, Interceptor, Spinal or Torpedo BRs. They will automatically find nearby enemy targets on launch or can be given new targets by selecting them and left-clicking as per usual.

@Resok: I don't think that is the issue here because he saw them not moving at all once launched whereas escort battlerider SHOULD move in a patrol fashion.

As for not firing at anything it could be a result of the escort battlerider's weapon lacking sufficient range to hit anything on top of lack of movement.

Sure, I was attempting to provide some useful details on how BRs work and their expected behavior as he called out he was still new to the game :)

Escort BRs should be circling around the source ship, yes. However if they're manually given an attack order of an enemy ship I believe they will stop moving.

I'd recommend making a tech support post on the Kerberos forum if the behavior you're seeing is the Escort BRs immediately stop after being launched.

Also - was this Immersion or non-immersion Morrigi?

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I didn't realize Escort BRs don't attack enemy targets; what's the point besides taking hits for the mother ship, and why have all those guns on them if they're not going to fire? They do not, even when within gun range of the enemy.

I suspect the stoppage of movement is related to left-clicking on the enemy repeatedly, if the behavior you describe is correct, Resok. :)

This is non-immersion, IIRC. I thought the distinction was purely cosmetic?

CORRECTION: These are Patrol BRs, not Escort.

I believe the purpose of escort BR is to soak up incoming fire and protect the carrier or any important ship that do not have decent PD coverage. Most of the Leviathan have just maybe 3 dozens or more medium that can be re-purpose for PD but not as good escort BR can provide.

Sorry to hear that it turned out to be a bug. Hope you have better luck with resolving it over at Kerberos Production forum.

OK, on closer inspection, the BRs are in fact firing (their gauss cannons, ineffectually, usually at incoming missiles). However, they still lumber around the carrier, do not seek and destroy enemy ships the way drones do, and can easily be left behind by the fleet.

These are definitely Patrol BRs, not Escort, and you've ordered the BRs to move to the enemy?

Patrol BRs maneuver somewhat aggressively on their own initiative, but if you don't change their ordered position they'll hang around there and let the fleet leave them behind. Unlike Escort boats they don't automatically follow ships as far as I know.

On the immersion vs. non-immersion question, immersion is supposed to be purely cosmetic...but there have been a number of cases of bugs that only appeared with the immersion version. So that's always something to watch out for.

Definitely Patrol BRs. Clicking on the enemy or empty space seems to do nothing. They mill about the carrier listlessly, sometimes straggling behind, sometimes not. I expected them to zip out to the enemy and tear them apart.

I'll post on Kerberos in a bit. Thanks guys.

BRs are not like drones. They're units, not mere weapons. When they're selected you should be able to order them to positions.
