Activating mods tool is crashing the game

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
When I enale mods (even if I did not select any mod) and restart the client, the game does not restart properly and flashpoint, UW and heavy metal dlc appear as 'available', not 'installed '.
In my savegame folder, it says 'localized.nonlocalizablearg's career'. If i disable mods, game restart properly.

Steps to reproduce the issue
Install game
Load game
enable mods (do not select a mod, just enable them)
relaunch game
all dlc are not installed anymore
in load career screen, error message: 'localized.nonlocalizablearg's career'

Attach DxDiag (PC), System Info log (Mac), or run sudo lshw -html > specs.html and uploaded specs.html (Linux)

Attach Output Log
Windows: \Users\YourUserName\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\output_log.txt
Mac OS: Users >{name} > Library > Logs > Unity > Player.log
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Harebrained Schemes/BATTLETECH/Player.log


If the game crashed, please attach the crash file with the time stamp closest to the crash.

I'm frankly not sure what to make of the issues we see in that output log. This one:
UserSettings [ERROR] Google.Protobuf.InvalidProtocolBufferException: Protocol message contained an invalid tag (zero).
at Google.Protobuf.CodedInputStream.ReadTag () [0x0011b] in <f9cf94bbbfb041d0abe88cee5be00fc7>:0
normally means the game will not start at all, and to get past it you need to go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\ and delete the profiles.dat file . You might try doing that anyway, or at least renaming it.

Then just after the mods load we see lots of these:
Save.Core.SaveSystem [ERROR] invalid handle
Followed by:
UserSettings [ERROR] Unable to use existing cloud settings from save managers

Anyway lets see what deleting the profile does.
