Same issue here, GOG version, was playing back in 2018 and returned with latest update after purchasing season pass.
No other fixes (clearing game data, fresh install, codecs e.t.c.) worked.
So I tried to create a new windows user. That worked, I could get past the black screen and onto the game.
One more observation though. When I launched GOG Galaxy under new user and tried to launch Battletech, GOG showed an error icon next to RUN button, stating that there was an issue syncing my save data from the cloud. And I never seen that error message under my main user account.
I wonder, maybe we also need to try a fresh reinstall of GOG Galaxy itself? There were people in the thread who launched game on a new PC or other PC, and it worked. Maybe it worked because they had a fresh install of GOG? =)

UPD: Nope. Uninstalled GOG Galaxy 2.0. Cleared everything in APPDATA related to GOG or Harebrained. Did the same in Registry.
Installed classic GOG Galaxy, reinstalled the game. Still black screen under my Windows account.

Looks like an issue in the video/graphics area:

Is there any newer Mesa version available for you?

Up to Mesa 19.3.1 and no change. Considering that two other users at least reported this issue and one of them was using an Nvidia card with a completely different driver, and they reported that rolling back to 1.6.2 worked for them, I'm not about to open a bug report for RadeonSI. I still suspect the intro is hung/unable to play. That is a Unity or BT-specific issue. I cannot 'roll back' to 1.6.2 because GOG only offers the latest build. Also, I purchased Heavy Metal which needs 1.8

I found no config option to skip/not play the intro.

Launching with the -force-vulkan switch causes a crash.

I hope this issue is on the radar to be fixed.

I don't think that's right, I'm pretty sure GoG does give access to older builds. Can you check with them please?

Greetings,

No discussions of piracy please.

Thank you

I am not sure I understand you. I just looked through the 'larger' games in my library and none of them offer but the latest installer for any OS. Windows versions sometimes have delta patches, and can be downloaded in smaller chunks, but that's the only difference. If you are thinking of GOG Galaxy, that is not available for Linux.

(If you meant 'email them and ask for an earlier build', I should tell you that GOG's reaction to a non-functional Pathfinder build was to yank the game for sale for Linux entirely, until a working build was uploaded. I'm only looking for a bug fix here, not trying to give HBS a black eye. Furthermore I have installed on Windows 7 in the meantime, where the game runs without the issues listed in this thread, so I can use what I purchased, just not the way I'd like to. :)

I did mean that GoG supply access to older versions of this game via their client, just as Steam do (or rather that we do via those channels). I didn't know GoG have no Linux client, I'm sorry.

Did you try solution listed here? (at the bottom of the page) https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...s-screen-shown-forever.1260587/#post-26155340

Can everyone still getting this issue please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here.

I'm looking for something in common like an AV app, Windows update, or some process or utility running.

I have gone through and done a clean uninstall from the steps provided by the forum of the application and then reinstalled it and still getting the Unity Error on Startup. I have ran the application in latest version and in beat version 1.7, 1.6, 1.5, and now trying 1.2. The error long does not even load when it states please upload to developers

Any help would be great. been trying to play this game since it rolled out and just bought it again hoping a patch would fix it.

I can run this application on my Linux machine but it soooooo slow ( old system with probably not enough ram or video card ability ).

I had this issue but it went away with 1.9 so it might not be the same.

A user found a workaround that allowed me to play during 1.7 and 1.8.

Create a new user in the windows. Log into it. Run the game from there. Don´t know why it worked, but it did.

The crash is in the Intel video driver:
igdusc64.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module igdusc64.dll at 0033:3790fd04.
This is because this game is not supported on Intel video hardware of any sort - they are not strong enough to run the game properly.

The game's published minimum hardware requirement is:

  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-2105 or AMD® Phenom™ II X3 720
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 560 Ti or AMD® ATI Radeon™ HD 5870 (1 GB VRAM)

Unless you have access to a computer with supported hardware you can play this game on, I recommend you seek a refund for this purchase.

Sorry about that!

It seems that I am having the same issue as all the windows folks. Everything was running fine, put 50 hours into the game. Then it just started with the black screen after the three logos and wouldn't transition to the first cut scene. This is a brand new system running Win 10 and AMD graphics. After reading through this thread, I tried the "Create an alternate user account" workaround and it worked. This is Battletech 1.9, no Mods.
