One line summary of your issue
Cannot load saves and cannot start either campaign or career

What platform are you running the game on?

Steam

What operating system do you use?
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
Which version of the game are you running?
1.9
What DLC do you have installed?
Flashpoint,
Urban Warfare,
Shadowhawk Pack,
Heavy Metal

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Loading any save just ends with an unending loading screen. Starting any career or campaign does not work because after character creation I cannot save any game because the button is blanked out. If I leave the game after any time (waited nearly 1 hr once) the message tells me that I will loose any unsaved progress and afterwards there is no savegame to load...going Ironman there is a savegame...but that one ends in an unending loading screen again. In the end I can neither use older saves nor start from scratch. Verifying files, reinstalling and switching drives did not do any good. Reverting to 1.8.1 is the only solution to all problems above atm.
Have you tried verifying your files?
Yes

Steps to reproduce the issue
Problem above happens every time I give it a try.

Attach DxDiag (PC), System Info log (Mac), or run sudo lshw -html > specs.html and uploaded specs.html (Linux)

Attach Output Log
Windows: \Users\YourUserName\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\output_log.txt
Mac OS: Users >{name} > Library > Logs > Unity > Player.log
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Harebrained Schemes/BATTLETECH/Player.log

If the game crashed, please attach the crash file with the time stamp closest to the crash.
Windows: [Steam library folder]\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\DumpBox
For v.17 and beyond try here: C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH
OSX: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > Steam > steamapps > common > BattleTech > DumpBox
Linux: [Steam library folder]/steamapps/common/BATTLETECH/DumpBox

If a save game was loaded at the start of the game session, upload it. Please make sure to upload the save game with the timestamp closest to when you loaded it.
Windows:
Steam: [Steam installation folder]\userdata[SteamID]\637090\remote\C0\SGS1
GOG: 'C:\Users\USER_ID\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\50593543263669699\Storage\Shared\Files\C#\SGS#'
Vanilla:'C:\Users\USER_ID\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BattleTech\C#\SGS#'
OSX:
Steam: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > Steam > userdata > [SteamID] > 637090 > remote > C#> SGS#
GOG: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > GOG.com > Galaxy > Applications > 50593543263669699 > Storage > Shared > Files > C# > SGS#
Vanilla: Macintosh HD > Users > [username]> Library > Application Support > unity.Harebrained Schemes.BattleTech > C# > SGG#
Linux:
Steam: /home/.steam/steam/userdata/[steamID]/637090/remote/C#/SGS#
GOG: /home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Harebrained Schemes/BATTLETECH/remote/C#/SGS#/
Vanilla: /home/[username]/.config/unity3d/Harebrained Schemes/BATTLETECH/remote/C#/SGS#/

I don't understand how things like a Steam Verify or letting the game through AV apps helps most people but not you ... very strange stuff!

And going to 1.8.1 sometimes help you and sometimes not.

It's been a while so lets get a new dxdiag.txt please.

And please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach here, thanks.

Is that output log taken just after one of these events?

This is not a good sign:
+++ WER4 +++:
Fault bucket LKD_0x141_Tdr:6_IMAGE_igdkmd64.sys_GEN9_DX10_BBHANG, type 0
Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
But that is the Intel video driver, which the game is not using. Because MS don't timestamp these entries we can't tell if they are correlated with the game problem.

I see nothing else of concern in those files, unfortunately!

Aha. I was pulling an old Output_log. I didn't realize the AppData folder under my user name was hidden. I've got the up-to-date on now.

EDIT: And for the record, I can keep doing reinstall, or verify, or rollback/update, and sometimes it will finally work, but it always goes back to the infinite loading screen every time I reboot and I have to start all over again just trying things.

I understand that, and thanks for persisting. I'd also understand if all this was not worth it for you!

Counted 665 save slots
Counted 389 save slots
Please delete any saves you don't actually need any more, try to get below 100.

MessageCenter [ERROR] CRITICAL ERROR, PLEASE REPORT:
Delegate ReportSessionEndHandler - Standard for message type OnAppShutdown failed with exception
Object reference not set to an instance of an object
This I frankly have no idea about. We did not see that in the output log in your OP here.

Anyway lets see if reducing the saves helps.

So, that appears to have done the trick. Is there a way I can turn Steam Cloud synchronization back on without it trying to grab all the saves I deleted so I can still use it for new saves going forward?

Sorry, I didn't realise or had forgotten you'd turned Steam cloud sync off. Did you delete those unwanted saves in the game, or Windows, or how?

There are ways of clearing out your Steam cloud saves outside games, but they are pretty clunky!
