Looks like it's an issue with the mod BetterBaseDefense:

KeyNotFoundException: No ContractOverride entry in 'ContractOverrides' with id: \Documents\My Games\BattleTech\mods\BetterBaseDefense\contracts\DefendBase_BeefedUpSecurity.json

Try disabling the mod and relaunching the game.

Found the problem. It is the Mods System itself. I first tried dis-enabling the mods one-by-one, starting the game, starting a new Career, with no luck, wash, rinse, repeat. Then I unclicked the "Mods Enabled" box in the upper right of the Mods screen, and lo and behold, everything works. My version number is 1.8.0-629R.

Have exact same problem

Steam
Windows 7
1.8
Season Pass DLC, Flashpoint was Retail, the rest was Steam Store
Enable Mods checked, disabled all individual mods: endless waiting at Contracts screen

I also suspect it's not an issue of the mod system per se. Why this fixed your problem is that "disabling mods" checkbox in fact disables Mechtek and stops loading the JSON files that cause this error. I highly suspect that its in fact `BetterBaseDefense` mod that changes some stuff in missions and produces the exception in a merged file. I have similiar issues with `JK_VariantsCAB` mod.

On a side note, if you remove a mod suspected of causing this, you also need to clean the Mechtek cache, for Heavy Metal (1.8.0-629R) it is in `C:\Users\me\Documents\My Games\BattleTech\mods\HBS` - remove `Cache` (and `Database` for variant related mishaps) folder and be prepared to see a different loading screen and a crash at next launch. Try launching again and the exception should be gone, and you will have a working BATTLETCH game with working mods again. ;)

This seems to have fixed my issue. It was also `JK_VariantsCAB` screwing with my Contracts, and simply deleting the mod wasn't enough. Deleted the `Cache` and `Database` folders, fired up the game with a single custom-mech mod enabled, and was able to load contracts.

I have this exact same issue, but I have no mods, have never installed mods, and even deleted the "BTSAMPLEMOD" that came with the mod update, also deleted the cache and database folders and could still not access the contracts. It sticks at either the Infinite Loading on the contracts screen (Also the back button at the top left doesn't work, have to click a different menu in order to leave).

If I go to a different system, there are just no contracts, no matter what system I go to, but it will 'load' the contracts page, IE, it will not keep spinning trying to load the contracts. Version is 1.8.0-629R

Have you Verified your files? could be a bad file

Still no dice. Full install/reinstall. Tried multiple saves from different campaigns. I was able to load the contracts if I go way back (to before Artu), but my recent saves (after Artu) are not loading contracts. I'd really hate to restart the campaign all over again (again). It seems like before Artu is the common thread of "It works". Is there something in "After Artu" that would prevent me from accessing the contracts screen in-game? I have "Travel Contracts" when I look at the star map, but when I click View Contract it goes right back to infinitely connecting to the Comstar/Mercnet.

After the reinstall, the BTSAMPLEMOD is back, but I have mods disabled already and haven't installed any mods in the past, either.

Thank you!! Your suggested solution worked!!

I'm using the paradox launcher.
No mods.
BTDEFAULTMODTHINGY w/e it's called *is* enabled. I will disable and try again.
Version 1.8.01 (the extra update w/o a new version
I can enter a contract. Entered in "The B Team" mission and when the OPFOR's turn to move, infinite spin on the screen in the top left.
Tried another contract. Escort mission. OPFOR's turn and then infinite spin again.

Disabled the mods system. Re-ran "The B-Team" contract and at the enemy turn it spins forever. :-(
Guess I will try again with Steam tomorrow.

After completing the Grave Robbing then Escape mission, I am also getting the bug where contracts will not load. Upon clicking contracts the game just keeps spinning, trying to load contracts. I loaded an earlier save game and contracts work. so it appears to be an issue related to after the grave robbing mission in my case.

Did i mention Battletech is an awesome game despite the bug? :)

travel to outside the directorate space and see if that helps. after those two missions you're left in that area, and you're not supposed to be able to get contracts from the planets that area.

My situation is not the same.
